50 years of the CB750.
« on: September 21, 2018, 07:45:22 AM »
Next year will be 50 years since the birth of this iconic motorcycle.
Does anyone know if anyone is doing anything special to celebrate this milestone in the bikes history?

It's a scary thought, I was a junior in High school when they first came out! How about some of you?

Another thing that could be done is to have a smaller event in all 50 states here in the USA. If it was coordinated each stare could be at a different date,  so it would be like a contest to see who could attend the most events. A patch for each state would be very cool too.

It sorta makes you feel young again Sam.
Still remember the first time seeing one going past High School in '69.
That was it.
I was getting one come hell or high water.  ;D
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

A good idea mate, all we need now is someone in the States to organise it.
I've asked on quite a few CB750 pages on Facebook and this is the best idea yet, go to the top of the class jgger.

David, it would be awesome if your idea (posted on HP&R page) could be tied in with jgger's to make this work.

The patch and T-shirt  would work nicely and I will have to talk to Glenn as forum owner to get him involved as I do not feel comfortable speaking for the forums.  My idea of hitting the dealers up to swell the support and provide some extra push would be a little dirty pool but within our rights, just would show Honda that the group is serious about celebrating the legacy and hell anyone in marketing know you have to be a pirate, not afraid to take a big risk and paint with broad brush strokes with something appealing.  My idea is complex but a streamlined one would work as well. I may be approaching Honda about the T-shirt front idea to get permission with royalties based upon unit sales...
They do not protect the Honda Logo they can lose it, so having Honda on anything not pre-authorized where there is the possibility of a making a buck or just using it without approval gets high powered lawyers involved.

Like jggr I was in 9th grade when they came out. Had my first ride on a Bridgestone twin the year before and I was hooked on bikes ever since. 50 years - what a milestone and testament to the longevity and engineering of this bike. I think I will celebrate by riding like the rest of us.

Tim, David's event does seem a little premature and although I know the bike was introduced to the world late in 68, even in his own event info it states bikes from 69 to 78. Here's a copy and post from his event info.

Event: CB750 Anniversary Celebration
Date: Saturday 29th September 2018
Venue: David Silver Honda Collection, Leiston, Suffolk, IP16 4JD, UK
Info: Open to all owners of any of the 1969 to 1978 SOHC CB750 Models. Download Event Flyer for more info and Bike entry form.

David, if you contact American Honda see if they would use a 750 escort for their Rose Parade float. Talk about exposure! I think it would be pretty easy to get volunteers  to show off their bikes to the world.

Sam, yes I thought that too, it's also late in the season and weather is not so great now, although the biggest bike show of all in the region, Copdock, is the following weekend.

Hopefully there's a ride out too as Leiston isn't the greatest place to hang around all day.

Whoa!!!! 50yrs, next year!!!! Myself, I was winding up my 2 year tour at
Misawa AFB, in Northern Japan. To get one, in Japan. There was a guy on
the base, who ordered one in from the U.S. (only way to get one in Japan)
and it was the 1st one I saw, firsthand. It was truly Awesome!!!! Compared
to what we were used to seeing, the 750 seemed huge, to see.

Thank you, Sam, for bringing that to light.  ;)

It will be interesting to see how much Honda itself gives a damn about it.

IIRC, Jerry tried to get Honda involved in the first relay, without much success...

It depends on where you are located and which events you are going to. For AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio in July, the 750 SOHC Club (?) - like for the 40 year anniversary in 2009 - will have a large display tent in the infield which they will share with the CBX Club (ICOA) for their 40 year anniversary.
1973 CB350F -sold
