Craigslist!
« on: September 23, 2018, 08:52:56 am »
Stolen from the Triples forum....

I frequent our local Craig's list motorcycles just to see whats on the market and how it's priced.

I have noticed a trend of usual Cliques used on Craig's List some are........... quite comical.

"Price is semi firm"

"Bad health can't ride anymore..................will consider trades"

"Needs the usual, carb cleaning, tires, cables, stator, brakes rebuilt, and seat reupholstered".

"Great condition won't take much to get it going again, motor locked up"

"Ran when parked 27 years ago"

"This model is semi collectible"

"Easy fix and ride"

"Only ridden a few times in dry weather"

"Can't find Title so selling with bill of sale only"

"Needs minor cosmetic details, turn signals, side covers, handlebars, gauges, and seat"

"Just needs battery, battery's been dead for 4 years"

"Basket case, but one basket may have got lost when I moved"

"Firm price or best offer"

"Most parts are there"

"Just needs Tuning"

"Ran when new"

"Easy fix project bike"

"Will run on starter fluid"

Do you have any you can add?

 Barn find  ::)
Transmission is fine expect second gear but I just skip it when I ride  ;)
I just talked to a 'seller' this morning from CL add and I could not coax a price out of him for the bikes and parts HE was trying to sell. He wanted me to help him price his stuff so he could get the most. Surprised he did not want me to come over and polish everything up and take better pictures while I was there. If a seller has a price high or low I am cool with that but I am not going to do a big dance and price his stuff for him. Always more down the road.

When I first read it, I was a little confused. Thought steve-o was posting about clubs of scammers (cliques).. :o.then I realized it was about clichés (phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought) 8)

How about the classic ebay description:

"Will clean up nicely"
1973 CB350F -sold
1974 CB350F -218 orig miles, sold
1976 CB750K - in restoration

When they replace everything that is needed to run the bike and want to charge double market value because all the basics are new.

Facebook marketplace gets some good ones too. There is a CB900F that posted today that reads (in part): 1982 CB900F barn find...These are very fast and very hard to find...missing the exhaust, battery, headlight, blinkers are broken, I'm sure the carbs need to be gone through. $300 firm

Here's one that hit's most of the cliches.

While the bike itself has potential, it is a mishmash of parts most of which were added long after the bike was new.

I wonder if he knows the front fender is on backwards.
