I've been recusing myself from this thread, since I own
a record store the list might not end.
For today, here's mine:
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

For today, here's mine:

Hey mate, you own a record store? Cool! I want a copy of the "Monster Mash" album by Bobby "Boris" Picket and the "Crypt Kicker Five", I bought it when I was a kid but it's disappeared from my folks place (I think my brother "borrowed" it) and I'd love another copy? Cheers, Terry.
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

       Hey Terry,

Monster Mash WAS a good one too. What about The Purple People Eater by Sheb
Wooley (or however they spell it) and Love Potion #9? Don't remember who did Love Potion
           #9.

Sorry Terry, I don't own a copy of the record and there
is no c.d. version, but I will certainly keep you in mind.
I can, however offer this original 45 in picture sleeve at
an, ahem, very reasonable price:
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

Hot Rod Lincoln is a great song, EC, but inasmuch as I like Thoroughgood, I like the old Charlie Ryan version better.

I like the version by Asleep at the Wheel

I'm sure there's more than you think. Myself, I've never been a big Miles Davis fan. I do love Dave Brubeck, Stan Getz, Glenn Miller, Charlie Parker, Ella, Dizzy........... 8)

HAWKWIND

Silver Machine :-

" I just took a ride in a Silver Machine
And I'm still feeling mean

Do you want to ride
See yourself going by
Other side of the sky
Well I got a silver machine

I've got a Silver Machine...

It flies
Sideways through time
It's an electric line
To your Zodiac sign

It flies out of a dream
It's antiseptically clean
You're gonna know where I've been

I've got a Silver Machine..."

Hawkwind again

Death Trap :-

"In the back of my neck I can feel a strange sensation
Feels like I'm heading for the crisis of all creation
Only those with 'death wish' understand my situation
Feels like Jesus Christ heading for the stations of the cross,
In my death trap, death trap
Running in my death trap, death trap
Chicken running in my death trap, death trap
Heading for the crossroads of fiery crucifixion
Lighting up the night sky with bitterness distinction
While I hold the wheel of fate, smell of burning friction
I feel like a hero heading for extinction
It's the shell of steel or plastic
Monkey on elastic, going up and down
Crank shaft cracking up
Oil pressure going down
Brake drums blowing out
Tyres on fire now
Differential seize up, unbalanced camshaft
Worn out pistons rings,
Brake fade, brake fade
Hydraulic leak out, radiator overheat
Monkey on elastic, going up and down
Shell of steel or plastic, turning round
Shell of steel or plastic
Monkey on elastic, going up and down"

My bike can be repaired.
My insanity is a little more permanent.

After going through basically hell for six months dealing with depression, alcoholism, drug abuse, and even self mutilation (  :-[ :'( ), I think there's really only one song that pretty much defines me is "Beautiful Things" by Andain. Not really a classic and I highly doubt the vast majority of you have heard of it, but hey, it means a lot to me.

Got up early, found something's missing
my only name.
No one else sees but I got stuck,
and soon forever came.
Stopped pushing on for just a second,
then nothing's changed.
Who am I this time, where's my name
I guess it crept away.

No one's calling for me at the door.
And unpredictable won't bother anymore.
And silently gets harder to ignore.
Look straight ahead, there's nothing left to see.
What's done is done, this life has got it's hold on me.
Just let it go, what now can never be.

I forgot that I might see,
So many beautful things.
I forgot that I might need,
to find out what life could bring.

Take this happy ending away, it's all the same.
God won't waste this simplicity on possibility.
Get me up, wake me up, dreams are filling
this trace of blame.
Frozen still I thought I could stop,
now who's gonna wait.

No one's calling for me at the door.
and unpredictable won't bother anymore.
and silently gets harder to ignore.
look straight ahead, there's nothing left to see.
what's done is done, this life has got it's hold on me.
just let it go, what now can never be.

so many beautiful things...
so many beautiful things...

Now what do I do
can I change my mind
did I think things through

It was once my life
it was my life at one time

Post depression, you really find out just how beautiful life is and how much there is to live for. Every day is a gift. Live it to the full.

As for theme songs, Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes"

Travelling somewhere
Could be anywhere
There's a coldness in the air
But I don't care
We drift deeper
Life goes on
We drift deeper
Into the sound

(Embrace me... Surround me.. As the rush comes)

Travelling somewhere
Could be anywhere
There's a coldness in the air
Yeah but I don't care
We drift deeper into the song
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound
Feeling strong

So bring it on, so bring it on
We drift deeper into the song
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound
Feeling strong
So bring it on, so bring it on
We drift deeper...

We drift deeper life goes on
We drift deeper drift deeper
We drift deeper into the song
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound
Feeling strong
So bring it on, so bring it on
We drift deeper into the song
Life goes on
We drift deeper into the sound
Feeling strong
So bring it on, so bring it on

Embrace me.. Surround me
As the rush comes [ x 8 ]

As the rush comes
As the rush comes
As the rush comes

jabba,
may i suggest a more up-beat theme song about depression and drug abuse for your newfound sense of life:

Illegal Smile
©John Prine

When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad
Seem like total silence was the only friend I had
Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won
And it was twelve o'clock before I realized
That I was havin' ... no fun

Chorus:
But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun

Last time I checked my bankroll,
It was gettin' thin
Sometimes it seems like the bottom
Is the only place I've been
I Chased a rainbow down a one-way street... dead end
And all my friends turned out to be insurance salesmen

Repeat Chorus:

Well, I sat down in my closet with all my overalls
Tryin' to get away
From all the ears inside my walls
I dreamed the police heard
Everything I thought... what then?
Well I went to court
And the judge's name was Hoffman

Ah but fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun
Well done, hot dog bun, my sister's a nun

*note: On the 1997 LIVE ON TOUR Prine ends the song with:
"Well done, son of a gun,
hot dog bun,
Attilla the Hun,
my sister-in-law is an Irish nun".

Here's one with a motorcycle theme and profound in its simplicity -

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No one will be watching us
Why don't we do it in the road?

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No one will be watching us
Why don't we do it in the road?

Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
Why don't we do it, do it in the road?
Why don't we do it in the road?
No one will be watching us
Why don't we do it in the road?

Everywhere there's lots of piggies,
Living piggy lives.
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives.

Long May You Run
« Reply #95 on: January 31, 2007, 04:45:56 PM »
Neil Young

This was suppose to be written for his Hearst "Mort"!
Could be for a old Motorcycle.

Weve been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Well, it was back in blind river in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.

Maybe the beach boys have got you now
With those waves singing caroline no
Rollin down that empty ocean road
Gettin to the surf on time.

Long may you run.
Long may you run.
Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
Long may you run.
