1975 CB400F Handle Bar Issue
« on: September 30, 2018, 05:45:38 PM »
Just picked this bike up recently and am sorting out any/all issues at this point. One thing I noted is that if the front wheel is turned all the way to the right, the metal elbow of the throttle return cable (at the switch block) is hitting the gas tank just a wee bit before the stop on the lower fork tree hits the tab on the frame. I'm not sure if I have stock handle bars on this bike. I measured the rise on the existing bars and it looks to be about 1.25". Is this the same as original? I did inspect the stop pin on the lower fork tree and the frame tab, they both look identical to the ones on my stock CB350F. Including some images. Hoping someone may have a '75 stock 400F to compare this to. I did note that the bars have the OEM grips and the bike is fairly low miles (7,800). Thanks for looking...

perhaps the bars have been rotated in the clamps back towards the rider...try rotating them forward until everything clears and see if they are still comfy.  Also those cable stems can be clocked around different directions also.

Bars look like legit cb400 bars but who really can tell?  Wiring is ran through them correctly?
If it works good, it looks good...

Also when you have the bars set  the split in the control  (between the two halves ) should be level to the ground with the wheel pointing straight ahead. So there is actually 3 separate adjustments you can make.
1 handle bar position
2 clock the cables
3 rotate the throttle housing

On mine the metal elbows are pointed straight forward when bars are forward. Then when you turn the bars they are nowhere near the tank.

Thanks all for the input. I will look at each of these and figure out what combination works best. I'm a purist at heart, so wasn't looking to swap out the bars unless they weren't legit.
