Saldana Racing Products: Hwy 267 in Brownsburg; Keith Wagoner proprietor. Mention my name. HE will hand you off after initial contact, he doesn't do any of the work. But I'd ask for him and tell him what you need. Not the cheapest but it should be right...and pretty.

Thanks for the info Ron, I'll add Saldana to my list of locals.  Though it looks like I wont need them for the front end.  After taking the front end apart, it seems the spacing issue was my fault.  After proper re-assembly it everything appears to be all good now.

On another note, I've been chatting with a gentleman that races an XS Triple in New Zealand and has rigged up a remote filter setup by modifying an Oil Cooler plate from an XS850.  Essentially he has tapped the output port from the plate for a standard NPT fitting and then had another fitting welded onto the hollow Union Bolt that is standard for the adapter plate.  The bypass has to be welded shut to do this but that's fine with me. 

Here's some pics of the mockup of his plate.  He runs an inline filter between the plate and the cooler.

Just stumbled on this, I've grow very fond of the triples recently, as I acquired 4 of them in an epic Craigslist find for $900. We turned one into a chopper, one was really a parts bike with a locked motor so we stripped that one, one is stock for now, and the other we have been building into a cafe racer......Love the SOUND of your hooker exhaust, but looks like a real pain to mount and I've always been a fan of the 3-1 that was on some models.....so we build a 3-1 of our own. Called in a favor to get some exhaust tubing bent up and we got to chopping and welding, pretty proud of the results, especially the collector I made from scratch... and don't have to remove to swap the oil filter!

You don't happen to have an extra oil cooler adapter around do you?  ;D

?  You mean using the XS750/850 adapter on a Honda CB?  I believe that the XS's adapter diameter is way too big for a CB.  I remember checking the O-Ring diameter and the CB is around 90mm, but the XS is 117mm.  Don't think you can swap between.

maybe the extra that was in the box wasn't XS then, but they are the same exact brand and the plate I had I SWORE fit my spare CB oil filter housing.....I'll double check...if it doesn't fit then I'll PM you and we can work something out.

Picked up Oil Cooler adapter to modify and a new Union Bolt to have a fitting welded to.

So here's where I get a little confused as I have zero experience with oil and fluid line fittings.  Is there a preference to go with AN or NPT size fittings?  Also, what size lines would be recommended for a remote filter application?

Essentially I need the following:
- Male Adapter to weld to the union bolt for return line
- Will have output line to filter tapped for a fitting
- Find a remote spin on oil filter mount (maybe something like this:  http://www.jegs.com/p/Derale/Derale-Standard-Series-Remote-Oil-Filter-Mounts/1335930/10002/-2
- make/buy hoses

Basically copying the idea from a New Zealand Racer on the Yamaha Triples forum. 
 
Any input on AN vs NPT would be appreciated.  Or does it not really matter.

G'Day Joe, nice project mate. I never liked the XS triples when they came out, but now I'm older and wiser (or perhaps just older......) and have a Triumph Rocket III with it's 2300cc triple (and a Yamaha FJ1200 which of course is a 4, but a very similar engine design) I have a renewed appreciation for them.

Re your PM, I made Brian's (Tintop) remote oil filter adapter and filter mount from scratch. From memory, Brian stipulated that he wanted AN fittings, and I think he used AN-6 fittings? Thare's absolutely nothing wrong with using NPT fittings though, I used BSPT (Imperial version of NPT) fittings on most of my coolers when I was making them, with no issues, but of course they're not as "pretty" as AN fittings. (and not as expensive, either)

It's a pity that the Cycle-X adapter won't fit, that would have been an easy "out" for you. Have fun with your project mate, whatever you do, you can only make that old XS look better...... Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry.  Yeah....I was staring at the cycle x setup for a bit and I've shopped around, but there aren't any bolt on setups that I could find which would fit.

Not much action on the bike....didn't get around to the remote oil filter yet, but I managed to make the exhaust mounting a little better and also updated the brakes to stainless lines.

Took it out for a long run last weekend.  Annual Moonshine Lunch Run.  Tons of bikes there....couple neat CB750 Choppers as well.

Time to pull the XS out from mothballs....I parked it a while back as it had lot of oil weeps around the engine cases due to old age.  I did nothing to the engine when I built the bike so time to go through it.  Engine is fine...so will just be pulling the covers off and replacing gaskets.  Will touch up engine paint and polish covers.

While I'm at it the paint job has to go.  I was NEVER happy with the bodywork color.  The grey frame and grey tank/tins don't match well and looks terrible in sunlight.  I think I'm going to go with a flatter white on the skins with some simple black detailing. 

Rose (wife) hates riding the bike and finds the height and seat extremely uncomfortable and all around just doesn't like being a passenger on it.  So of all my machines this is going to be a ME bike :)  going to fashion some rearsets and shorten up the seat to pull the rear tail in about 6.5" 

To Do List:
- Paint
- Suspension (Racetech Springs and Emulators in Front and Likely Hagons in rear).  May lower the bike appx. 1"...we'll see
- Modify Seat and remove rear fender.  Modify Frame to match change. 
- New TurnSignals and Brake Light

Bad Photochop attached of what I'm thinking for modifying the seat.

Work wont be too fast on this as we need to start throwing some time and cash at the superhawk soon.  But no reason to not do the things that don't cost much.

Drudging this up to say goodbye to the XS...passing it along to a long time friend that’s  wanting to play around with a vintage bike compared to his newer Harley.

We replaced the starter clutch and some gaskets and did a quick test fire.

Started like a champ...now he needs some exhaust pipes

Will be nice to have the space back in the shop
