First Ride
« on: August 21, 2021, 05:45:32 PM »
My son bought this crappy little Honda for a father/ son project. They couldn’t get it to run, off idle (with full choke). Brought it to the farm this morning and we diagnosed a leaking intake manifold gasket..... Made up a new one (and a few new cables) and my grandson had his FIRST RIDE. I escorted him for a few miles and it was a hoot. Little bike runs like a Honda. He must have put 20 miles on it today. It will need a rebuild this winter, for sure.

I can’t wait until the day the three of us can pull out my cb750s and go for a ride together. He’s eleven, so I’ll need to survive a little longer!

Thanks all. Pretty cool afternoon. After a swim in the pond and a few burgers, they stayed overnight. This morning we are setting valve clearances and them he seems determined to wear it out!

Its great to get them started young so they already have the skills when they legally can hit the road. My son was around 18 when I finally unleashed him on the 750's. Great fun riding around together back then. He's 32 now and has his own Honda 919 Hornet and its hard to get with him even though he lives close. With his job, wife and kids and all he hardly has time for the old man right now. It reminds me of the Harry Chapin song "Cats in the Cradle"
Enjoy your time with him !

My one and only Grand-daughter turns 13 today, so I really enjoyed your story. God does time fly fast, a day of a lot of memories....  I can still the recall the smells, sensations, and joy riding on the back of an Indian Chief with my Dad with fishing poles strapped to the side of the bike when I was a boy.  He passed on to me the love of motorcycles and the ability to spin a wrench, sounds like a tradition that may never fade in the world of two wheels......

So true! My son reminded me of a time like that, while the three of us were swimming in the pond this am. Best part of the weekend was my wife and Igot time with the “boys” (his wife and two daughters stayed back for a few other things). It was brilliant. Huge breakfast, and they stayed until mid-afternoon. A “short visit” turned into most of the weekend. Once again, a motorcycle may lead to more wonderful experiences!

He has those memories and that’s the best you can do. See below: he probably thinks of those days every time he gets on a motorcycle.

Yep he needs a bigger toy. Lots of smaller vintage enduro's both 2 and 4 stroke around here always popping up. Another project for Gramps  :D

So true! Looking fo a pair of size nine boots that probably won’t work for 6 months. Best couple of days of 2021! It’s amazing how quick that little Z50 goes....

I feel I need to comment on my “shorts and tee shirt”! I was moving the bike from the shop to the house garage...... Chris (my son) and I went out for a short ride before it got dark. He rides a K3. Despite the high temps, we both wear all the gear, ALWAYS. Jack (my grandson) knows the deal. No gear means no ride. Period.

My 3 grandkids are back in school and my little buddy just started kindergarten. We've spent 2-3 days a week there for the last year, the old Papa is having withdrawals. We have a minibike to work on, their go cart is too fast for the 4 year old. Hard to slow down and still make it move.
