16” rear shock? Pro’s and con’s
« on: November 25, 2018, 06:41:43 AM »
Has anyone ever run a 16” rear shock on their CB750? I just bought a 1970 cb750k off of a guy who made a ton of mods to it for street racing, including installing a longer swing arm off of a GL I think. I like the look of the swing arm, but it has a lower stance now. A pair of 16” shocks would put it up where it should be, but they are hard to find and I’m not sure if it would handle well. The easy thing to do would be to swap out the swing arm for an original, but I’m a taller rider than most and I like the idea of the bike fitting my frame.

Any thoughts?

GL is shaft drive so I am pretty sure that is not what your swingarm is from.

Have you ever sat on a stock cb750?  They are relatively tall bikes and tall folks seem to like them just fine.

There are many things to consider when swapping swing arms and rear shocks...swingarm angle, anti-squat, clear chain line etc. as well how it affects the rake and trail.  Certain traits will result in dangerous handling.  Be sure you know what you are doing before deviating from stock.
If it works good, it looks good...

I'm 6-4 and my 750 fits me quite comfortably.

Don't forget you can relocate shock mounts. Some use a 3 position mount  then you  can raise for cornering.
Also some make blocks go extend their shocks.

Likely handle dangerously. Also, changing shock length does not change your foot to seat position so you don't really ride the bike differently just less safely with those long ass shocks.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.
