« on: November 01, 2018, 07:07:28 PM »
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the speedo gear assembly off and axle out to replace front wheel bearings. Any help is VERY appreciated.

I believe, if memory serves me correctly, the axle threads into one of the fork lowers.

I don't believe this is correct. Diagram shows a single-sided thread, for a nut outside the fork.

If you're struggling to remove the speedo, its likely due to the housing being slightly corroded to the axle. Penetrating oil, and some gentle, careful tapping with a rubber mallet should coax it free.

80 is like the older hondas.    axle threads to a "nut" that gets clamped to the bottom of the fork tube.     you have to remove this nut to get the axle out and the speedo gear.      but over the years who knows what PO have done or how much corrosion
