« on: November 09, 2018, 05:43:18 PM »
I'm a little confused, I have a CB400F 1974 and require a Air Snorkel Boot. I see all sorts of different numbers
HB420, HB390,H543, H142-1 which of these is correct of my bike and also what do they mean? Any help would greatly be appreciated.

If you mean article 24 in p.28  of the Parts List http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac400/CB400F-F1-F2/CB400F-F1-F2.pdf  CHAMBER ASSY., AIR CLEANER in Honda speak , there seems to have been only one part number: 17300-333-000, so I think your safe. However some markets like Germany also had a tuned down 27hp CB400F ment for learners, but IIRC it was done by some sort of sleeve in the exhaust. You could do extra checks in the German CB400F Parts List: http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac400/CB400Four_de.pdf
And if you're referring to the DUCT AIR CLEANER IN., all CB350F and CB400F models had the same: 27240-333-000.

Th HB numbers appear to be a US breakers way of identifying which bike the bits come off. Try searching HB390 on ebay and you come up with an assortment of CB400 parts. Ignore.

^Most likely. I have parts with numbers that I don't understand. I ignore them and so far without consequences.

So  17242-333-000 is the part number DUCT, AIR CLEANER IN, which is described on EBAY as a Air Snorkel!!!!, Also the HB numbers where very confusing as I thought there was a coding system for the different years and had never seen these number referenced anywhere. Thank you for all the clarification, so it would appear the CB350f and all the CB400F's. used the same part. Mystery solved…ignore the HBXXX.

Honda sometimes uses the bike's "Product Code" on a part to identify it. However, usually this appears together with the letters "HM" for Honda Motors. Example: HM341 is stamped on some CB750K exhausts. In this case, however, none of the 3-digit numbers refers to a CB350/400F and I have never seen a "HB" number.
1973 CB350F -sold
1974 CB350F -218 orig miles, sold
1976 CB750K - in restoration

Other Hondas:
3 x CBX
CB1100R
GB500
Plus Kawasakis, BMws & Ducatis

Dealers on ebay make up there own nonsencial names for things. Far better to go to CMSNL look up the correct part and call it what Honda did
