Custom GSXR/CB500 axle
« on: December 18, 2018, 12:35:14 AM »
My GSXR front end was delivered and I started looking over it and planning out the next step.
Does anyone make a replacement wheel axle with GSXR ends and a center to fit a stock CB500 spoked whee hub?

I figured I would ask befor I fired up the cad software, spent time designing, specking material and heat treat. Then flip on then lathe and heat treat oven and started making one.

Thanks guys

How are you going about this conversion? How are you mounting the discs to the hub? What bearings are you using? Using the GSXR discs?

I think I was mistaken on what I’m wanting to do. I was not talking about using the stock bearings. My thought is to go up in size as the 15mm axle just does not instill a lot of confidence especially with the wider fork spacing. The shear strength is fine but flex could be an issue with less support between the forks. I am working on sorceing bearings that could take up to a 25mm axle. Going that big ID would require a double row bearing which should handle the load better. It’s posdible the GSXR axle could be used and just use spacers. A new bearing Spacer tube would need to be made but that’s easy.

Incognito Moto makes a GSXR conversion kit for the 750 which also shares a 15 mm axle so maybe that is something you can look into for reference.
