Weak spark
« on: November 13, 2018, 02:47:31 PM »
I have a 1974 CB750 K2. It has become a real pain to start. Its fitted with a Boyer electronic breakerless  ignition and in my opinion has a weak spark. I have replaced the coils and plug caps but still no real improvement. I have contacted Boyer and run a series of tests which all seemed ok. They also say that a points ignition give the impression of a stronger spark. Has anyone had a similar problem or can suggest a different brand of ignition system. Thanks for any help. Adrian.

Did you replace the coils with David Silver ones ?
If so, they are 2.2ohm coils (standard are 5 ohm) and it may be that your Boyer system doesn't like them.
See my "CB500 vs CB750" thread.
I have emailed Boyer asking the question but haven't had a reply yet.

Just a follow up - Boyer have stated that 2.2 ohm coils are NOT to be used with their systems as they are designed for the original Honda coils only. They state that the smoke will get out very quickly due to overheating of the black box.

And they don't make replacement metric smoke. :'(
