Brakes not breaks :)
« on: November 17, 2018, 08:17:38 PM »
Hi, the brake on my 750 has been dragging pretty bad so I took it apart. Was wondering if the pads and piston is reusable or if there junk and need replaced? Piston had some crud and I tried polishing it up but there still a few pits.

I've used worse in a pinch but a new piston and seal would be the ideal way to go.   Manuel said so in the manual ::)   But..................... he was speaking out the side of his helment....

If a piston isn't in your budget, at least get a new seal.   Larry

Junk them both. It is your life after all that depends upon these 40+ year old parts to stop the bike. The piston seal inside the caliper needs to be supple, the groove in which it sits must be super clean too. Member Godferrey sells a replacement phenolic piston that won't rust in the future. A well bought replacement.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis
