How to remove and install throttle cables at the handlebar?
« on: December 01, 2018, 11:10:51 PM »
I need to remove this new heated grip I pressed on too soon as it won't go any further. I guess I didn't clean the throttle grip(under the rubber) enough and I've hammered it on too good to pull off by hand.

So I might not need to remove the cables if anyone has a trick to get the grip off where it is currently. If no one has any better ideas I think I'm going to prop a space heater up there and apply some heat for a while. See if I can remove it after that.

If removing cables only. Loosen the handlebar and slide a little to the left and suddenly the cables will be long enough to allow the entire throttle handle w switches to slide off

Darn. That was a good tip. Didn't get it in time before I broke something. The tube.

Okay, but I got the grip off. An hour wihh the space heater worked, after I broke it off. So once the new (used) tube arrives what's the trick to get the cable back on with no one to help? I've got to somehow release the pulley at the carb to get slack right? Open to tips

+1 on the compressed air. A little water in there will help too if you have a syringe.

You need to loosen the adjuster at the carb end and remove bothe cables from the bracket to get enough slack to undo the twistgrip end.

That's an interesting idea. I already broke it off on accident tho and just ordered a new motion pro tube to arrive tuesday. I'm not looking at my bike now but I'm guessing you blow air from wherever the other end of the bar opens up?

Yeah, I figured that much but if I have to unravel my ratchet straps again to hold the air box back while I wrestle the carbs out again I'm gonna convert to the taboo air pods.

Can you do this with the carbs on? I hope there is a way. There should be with a long flat head screw driver maybe? Dig it down there with left hand while right gets it in the slot in tube.

Or maybe I should just go ahead and delete the push cable? I like taking things off if they're not needed and I wouldn't feel so bad about having to take the carbs out again.

Dont need to anything except tank off, cable adjusters at carb are easy to get at and no need to remove the cable ends from quadrant.

The tube was probably rotten and in need to be replaced anyway ;)
