No...it was a "Hit & Run"!!  Never saw him after he plowed into me.

The bucks around here can get med-large but not as big as in the mid-west [not enough food here].  I was on a highway traveling about 60mph, I saw him coming but there was really nothing I could do.  $4200 damage, it's a comprehensive insurance claim but I'll have to come up with the deductible. Glad I wasn't driving one of my cars, especially the convertible, he might have ended up in the passenger seat!

Wow - that's a lot of damage, surprised the deer got away. He may not have gone off far after his adrenaline fizzed out. Knock on wood but I have lived in Michigan all my life and even after driving commercially for a 12 year stint have not hit a deer yet. Had some close calls though.

Do you have a Buck Tag for modern weapons, Stev-O? If not, I’m afraid you’ll have to pay the fine for hunting out of season  >:(

Relieved you’re not hurt. Had a very matur 10’er ram my drivers door a few years back. $3,400 for a door. The bastard (he was run over by the truck following me) didn’t even have insurance! There I was, roadside at dusk, rush hour traffic in a light rain, dressed in business clothing having dragged this animal from beneath his truck, slapping the buck around trying to persuade him for his license, registration and insurance. The truck driver thought I was mental. Maybe I was just a bit....

Tough way to tenderize the meat Cal...

running over with a truck, not slapping the dear deer around.
There's a crude joke in there somewhere I'm not touching...family forum you know.

StevO, nasty bit of damage. They don't make them like they used to.

I'm glad you're OK Stev-o. A few milliseconds, or a small change in circumstances can make a huge difference in outcome. $4200 is a lot of moola for a door and a fender, but it's a lot cheaper than an ER visit.

A few weeks back at noon on rural I-94, I had one cross a way in front of me. In full flight, she made it across the WB, a wide median, and mostly across the EB, but 3 3/4 lanes cleared out of 4 isn't good enough. The deer got clipped in the hindquarters, spun around, landed well off the road, did not get up and run away. I had hoped that the EB'ers might have spotted her and missed her entirely.

We have them big here where I live since it is bow hunting only. One folded up the entire front end of my wifes car about 10 years  ago. The car was a week old. Insurance covered it since it goes under comprehensive that has no deductible.

Sorry to see that Stev-o.  If you'd been in my '65 F250 about all that would have happened is maybe wipe some dust off the fender.

I remember that video when it came out.  I felt bad for the guy, but had he been paying attention to what he was doing instead of engaging in narcissistic BSing and waving his left hand around, he could have missed that deer.

yeah the older F trucks were proper trucks,we can have "bull bars" on our vehicles here, designed in such a way that what you hit gets shoved down under the front, most interstate trucks have them,in the day id hit 7 or 8 roos and not even flinch or roll off the throttle.

At 3 am coming home from a night job I drove into the middle a herd of running deer in my company ford Taurus. I ended up sideways in the highway completely surrounded by deer and didn't hit one. They all looked around confused until the leader made a noise then they all followed him.  Another time, same car 5 am going to work I skidded to a stop and my buddy asked why we stopped, I pointed at the deer looking in his window. Finally I retired and gave back the Taurus, driving my wife's Accord I saw one coming diagonally from the side, put it in a four wheel drift steered around and the deer's hooves drug on the deck lid as it jumped over the car. Now that I said, it I'm probably jinxed to hit one.

Had one parallel me along the interstate and there was nothing to do but drive on as it ran and hope it did not try to cross or jump over me, was a moderate sized doe. My dad in the passenger's seat didn't like it when I told him about it doing so a few moments after we passed it. I knew if I slowed she might try crossing in front of me...

Went to pickup my sister at the airport a few years ago and had a herd cross in front of me driving my Mom's Subaru...was around 1AM. Was only doing 15 so I was able to stop in time. Scared my sister more than me. I had to beep the horn to get them to finish crossing the road as they just stood there with the herd of about 8-10 split between the two sides with a couple on the right starting to turn to go away back the way they came and the encouragement of the horn and a snort from the leader and they all crossed in front of us and we proceeded along our way. It was in heavy fog.

Have wondered about how you would tan a hide were I to hit one as deerskin can be quite nice. Having venison in the freezer would not be terrible either. My sister hit a deer recently and I ask her if she thought about taking the deer, she had a new '18 Toyota.

Prolly so!   This is the 3rd one I've hit, but by far the most damage.  But trucks can be repaired, and I got mine out of the body shop, they did a great job...

Be lucky that didn't happen in a newer vehicle with all the safety doo-dads where a simple quarter panel hit could total your ride.

My mom had to replace her 01 Outback Eddie Bauer edition that was in excellent shape...105k miles and superbly maintained by dealers. Lady ran a light and airbags deployed... insurance totalled as cost of airbags exceeded cost of car which was above Kelly Blue book because of condition. TN does not allow car older than 10 yrs to be rebuilt with salvage titles, so car was a write off. The motor was worth quite a bit I thought.
She now drives a '18 Forester with Eyesight and leather interior so it is nicely equipped. Should be at close to $28k.

Glad you got the truck back and they did a good job on it.

No Kidding! I really like visiting the Texas hill country and notice a boatload of deer carcass along the highway.
I was sure to be at the camp site before dusk! This is a deer thread so I won't get into the Javelina, a herd of those little bastards will ruin your ride.
