What you look for is a bare ring around the piston, or a crescent where something is knocking carbon off.
When I had a valve sticking once it was a very clattering noise. Check valve clearance,.. Valve can stick from being bent , not just being tight..
Any way you look at it, it's coming apart
Pistons in backwards? That can make the intake hit the piston top.
Just read the manuals, everything you need to know is in there.... Takes very few tools, simplest of engines.. Read it, re-read it, try to absorb it.,I think they guys that rely mostly on video, are always back here asking questions.
Did you have the head decked by a machine shop before rebuild?Get a $15 borescope (ebay) and hook it to a phone or tablet. Look down thru the plug holes for piston top wear.
