K7 and Delkevic
« on: December 15, 2018, 05:01:20 PM »
As much as I liked the look of the K7 and K8 exhaust, it was very heavy. Mine had a rust hole patched with a beer can and duct tape. The exhaust would rattle from the loose, rusted baffles inside. After seeing many favorable posts about Delkevic, we got one. The bike lost at least 30 lbs. My butt dyno tells me I picked up some oomph. The sound is great. Installation was quick and easy.

Did you have to re-jet her...?

How does it cold start now? Keeping the stock #35 pilots with the Delkevic exhaust was torture for starting on my K8 -- it'd take constant cranking on the throttle and crossing fingers hoping it'd catch.

Looks nice by the way, looks like the louder of the options?

Also, that seat looks phenomenal -- is that original? I couldn't find a reproduction K7/K8 seat, and my seat pan was rusted to hell. So I bought a low profile seat with a new seat pan I figured I could build a new seat from.

I did not re-jet. I am running the stock airbox/cleaner. After a chop, the plugs look a bit on the rich side, which is OK with me. The muffler has the baffle inside and is not too loud at all. It is 40 degrees today and the bike started with no problem, just choke and a twist or two for the accelerator pump. A couple of burps and she started fine. The jets are stock as far as I know. The seat is actually a K8 seat that was a super find on E-bay. Thanks for the compliment

Great looking bike!
Thank you. It may be just me but the K7, when I ride it, feels like a much more substantial (for lack of a better word) than my K1. The K1 feels light and small in comparison. I understand that by 1977 and 1978, Honda wanted a longer heavier bike. They achieved that

I have ridden both also and totally agree...how about that transmission though?  Shifting feels much better than your K1 I bet.

That muffler with the baffle installed is rather quiet.
