Sun Rims
« on: December 13, 2018, 06:31:00 AM »
I'm at the point in the build for new rims and spokes . Does anyone have any reviews on Sun Rims ? I see a post from Cognitomoto  that used them on a build ( so they must be good ! ) I do not see a D.I.D. in black , i was going w/ a black or anodized gold .   Also , does anyone offer a black spoke set ?    Any advice is appreciated .

I have run Sun 18" rims on my 750 for almost 25 years. They are very durable.

Plenty of guys race on them in AHRMA, good enough for me. Im a fan of the non-dimpled variety.

Get your spokes powdercoated before lacing.

You could use a solution to blacken stainless steel as well. Should be less hassle than the buildup of powder on spokes and be extremely durable.

I want to order Sun rims for my CB 550K soon. Is the rear wheel the same as the 750? Also for the nipples is their any benfit in using SS, aluminum, blue zinc or nickle other than asthetics? I'm thinking black anodized rim with SS spokes so I'd do SS nipples if there is no difference.

If you are going with stock hubs  Buchanon's has them in stock and you can order on line. I prefer the SS Spoke and Nipple, they should last a lifetime with no corrosion worries.

I ordered some black anodized Sun rims with SS spokes and nipples. .250 is the correct diameter for stock nipples?

Buchanan's called me and offered $30 off to do a .281 nipple. They had a rim laying around in that rare size. I went ahead and did that.
