1976 Honda CB750 bought on face book

My CB750 was first seen on face book in August. I was way on business and could not get back in time to see it. Its was sold so I asked the guy to get in touch if the sale fell through. I went way on business again to Denver, and when I was there the guy messaged me that the sale had fallen through  ;). I told him I would go look at it the next weekend, and to message  me if he sells it again as I would have to drive 70 miles. Saturday came around and I picked up a Uhaul trailer and drove down to see it. The engine turned over and there was compression (better than the RD350 I have just finished which was locked up solid). There was no battery and the gas tank was rotted out, but he had the title and only wanted $450 for it. So I loaded it up paid the man, and promised to send progress pictures, because his wife had bought it for him as a project then got pregnant so they decided to concentrate on raising a family.

The box had the front fender, air box/filter, side covers foot rests and carbs basically all the stuff the guy took off. Fortunately he knew enough to stuff oily rags in the inlets. The engine is now stripped down waiting for Primary and cam chains to be delivered from CycleX. I ordered the cryo treated chains. There were broken rings, but the crank journals look and measure like new the speedometer says 37,000 miles. I think Ill re-bore to first over size, but first i am going to hone the jugs to see if they are ok. The pistons look new, looks like someone rebuilt the top end at some point in time.

I think, based on Hondaman's analysis, that boring is the better option to "straighten up" the bores. Also, check availability of quality rings before deciding on "1st over". I had to go second over to get good rings.

So the bottom end has been rebuilt new cam chain and primary chains, the cylinders and head have been sent away to Andrews motorsport for rebore (2nd oversize pistons from cycleX) and vapour blasting. I cleaned up the frame and spray painted it. New fork Tubes have been installed and taper roller bearings in the steering head.
