Suzuki Katana
« on: December 19, 2018, 03:27:12 PM »
I was at the New York motorcycle show a couple of weeks ago and Suzuki was featuring their new recreation of the 1980’s Katana. They brought along a mint condition example of the original model to add to the display. The styling was groundbreaking then but I think it still holds up today. Definitely a distinctive look that is instantly recognizable. Here’s a couple of photos.

the original was indeed a stunner....the new one not so much, looks like the front fairing is just hanging on its mounts waiting to be put in the right place
i blame Terry

I have an '82 sitting in my garage, it's a great bike. I want to see the new version (although I can't afford one), and see if it lives up to the hype.

Very nice bike, Honda dog. Me likey very much. These bikes are really more from my era and I really appreciate seeing them today.
If you look at the sculpting of the tank and body it is very similar to the bikes of today . The blocky tail section, air cooled engine, and steel tube double cradle frame give away its age but you can certainly see that its style and design were ahead of its time.
Really a beautiful example, thanks for sharing .

Unfortunately they have the engine blacked out and buried behind the frame and other parts and hidden away on the new model unlike the great looking original that shows off that muscle well !

I think you are correct, it has all the trappings of a modern sportbike, but I still would like to see it and judge for myself.

Very true ekpent,
The newer bikes don’t really feature the engines like they used to. Some still do where the engine is part of the overall appeal.

Honda Dog,
It certainly has the performance numbers and is utilizing the long stroke GSXR K5 motor which is reputed to be a torque monster. If it’s like the other “sport naked” bikes of recent vintage it should be a blast to ride.
