I'm sad to hear this, Bill, but it's great to know that it's on your own terms.  The world has been a better place with you in it.

Hi Bill,

I've been shirking from making my reply for a few days, simply because, for once in my life, I was lost for words.

I can only try feebly to add to all the nice sentiments already paid in tribute to you, all well deserved I must say. I admire you taking the most important decision regarding your life and existance. Some day we will all meet our maker, either by accident or choice.

In doing what you are planning  you are also helping your family prepare for an event that  cannot be put off. You are being generous to them, allowing them to be prepared and to minimise their eventual grief, fair play to you.

To be a bit flippant, none of us are getting out of here alive.

On the forum here you have been a character, a wise and honest person whom we have all loved. Personally I have admired your airman background with your love of Merlin engines. I thought we had a chance of robbing one or two, but hell if we had tried that wheeze no doubt we'd both be in the choky.

Please try and stay in touch as best as you can, our prayers are with you.

Lots of respect and love,

Kev

Dinna fash yersel you group, it comes to all of us, I don't want to be an immortal, it's bad enough that I've outlasted my young wife. (she was 8 years younger)
Kev I see in that Terry Thomas sketch a thing on Fat's Waller, one of my hero's I remember that there was a comment by Jon Hendricks about Fat's being at his father house which was dry and Fats bribing young Jon to stand underneath the window where Fat's was sitting with a bottle of gin so that he wouldn't get thirsty.

Bill,
Your outlook on your situation is a credit to you.
For the first time in my life, I'm hearing a bloke who is staying calm and focused and standing as a pillar of strength in the face of imminenancy.
A fine example of true grit to us all Bill.

Hi Bill,

Apparently Queen Elizabeth, the Queen mother, also employed similar stratagems. Normally at breakfast time.

I met her once, charming lady who did not seem concerned about my dubious past.

Sir we met about a decade ago, shared some PMs on some topic pertinent at the time. I've been away from this forum only checking in now and then but have found you weighing in on the topics of the day with honesty and keen insight, and I think inspiring us all to be better men.
The honor is ours Sir.

Ok guy's I've received the go ahead to take advantage of the assisted dying program, my Myleophibrosis is causing me to have a transfusion every 1-2 weeks and is not helping so much any more and I've gone on Oxygen 24 hours a day, so the edge is getting much closer and I'm sucking up resources like a champ, which bothers the hell out of me, by the way the cost of all of this to me has been nada, nothing, so any one that want's to argue socialized medicine with me can go #$%* themselves in 4/4 time, I repeat no cost but I do feel a bit guilty at 79 of using the resources. Any how I'm going to push it a little further maybe try for Boxing Day or Hogmanay, I've no regrets and I've made friends here which I'm happy about, so I'll try and get the girls to let you know after the dirty deed is done so that you and the world can rejoice that the old bugger is finally gone.

Wow, I've just seen this thread Bill, I'm hoping I'm not too late to wish you all the best mate? My health has been sh1t this year, but your situation really puts my problems into perspective, until I'm faced with the ultimate decision as you have, I've got nothing to worry about.

As always, I'm impressed with your courage and your rational thought process, but don't feel guilty about the "system" keeping you alive, use what you're entitled to until it's no longer enjoyable mate, then prepare for the next adventure.

All man-made religious bullsh1t aside, I know first hand that this is not the end for you Bill, it's just another chapter of a very big book that is your personal story, so enjoy the ride mate, and we'll all be thinking of you. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, over here it was always, "March in the guilty baastard" Bill, which left the accused in no doubt as to what sympathy he (or she) should expect from the CO. I've been very lucky, in 41 years in the army I've never been charged, but I've had to march them in, or play prosecuting or defending officer many times. In pretty much every case they were guilty though, so even if I lost the case when I was defending them, I knew that they were only getting what they deserved.

In your case mate, I think they'll probably just let you off with a warning, although CB behind the pearly gates wouldn't be too hard to take, I wouldn't think? All the best Bill! ;D
