My first Yamaha.. xs 650... the AHA bike..
« on: January 08, 2019, 08:18:20 PM »
I was going to build a cb 750 tracker... which is not the easiest bike to do a tracker, and I had planned to use an Amen frame.
Then I found this  at first I was going to flip it , but then I thought maybe it would be fun, and I have a lot of stuff for it..
First thing I got was pipes, I just always loved TT pipes, so I got a stainless set from Hoos..
And I had a Storz alloy XR 750 tank,  which did not as good on a 754 as it wood on a twin.
Tried to put it on today, even pushed some wires down, but looks like I have to move all the wiring, lots of stuff ... so it's sitting way back in the pic.
A before shot and a now shot.
 Them bars gotta go..

 Go here: http://www.xs650.com/forums/

It's the SOHC4 forum  of the XS650 world. Good guys and lots of knowledge. Bullet proof bikes.

Be wary of MikeXS. They used to supply good parts, but the new owners have taken the "cheap China" route and people are starting to have issues. They also ripped off Pamco Pete and started selling a clone of his ignition, after being a vendor for him for years.
If you want a points replacement system, buy directly from Pete.

Good to know, thanks Scott.  I've bought parts from them in the past [for my RD350]...

Well it's nice to have some workspace for a couple months.
 Makes me more motivated..

Changed the bars on the bike to Renthals, just couldn't stand it, changed them on my sons 750 K8 too , had same pullbacks.. I didn't ask him... just did it.. I think he will like it..

I had an AHA moment while looking at XS650,s  online.. I want to call it AHA  so I took duct tape,  covered up the YAM in three places..... now..It looks like I am getting started,..

I got some very cool stuff I hoarded, gonna bust some of it loose on this one..

I been working on my fender, I want the back to dish in a bit.
I roughed it out today after I finished carving out the forming block.

Another piece of the seat puzzle. .
Wanted to make a cover over the exposed  fender portion.
But it is not as easy to make as it looks..
First try.    Not fitting  so I decided to make a hamnerform.. .. that will speed things up.

 Well the Hammerform sure helped..

Cut tank mounts off go lower alloy tank, it will probably go down another inch and a half when I move cables a stuff..
