So I just saw this in an e-mail from Mecum. They estimate a sale price of $38k-$50k for this pretty, but far from original bike. It doesn't give the VIN, but since it's from a collection I imagine that info is out there.

Me neither, but in the scheme of things that's cheap fix for a bike that'll bring that much money.

Dual front disc, lower bars, steering damper -- I'm sure the sandcast experts will come along and let us know what else.

Very good Presentation. Like mentioned fenders, headlight and handle bars look different than DonR's does. I don't know what was stock on Sandcast. The headlight looks like H4 hella type conversion, not an old Stanley. The handlebars look more like sport touring bars. DonR will know, I think his SandCast is more correct and slicker. I've been toe to kickstand with it, and you all know about pictures and detailing. It is a pretty one though.

 Wrong carbs to go along with all the other wrong stuff like wheels,brakes, blah blah blah. Its a bitsa. Be fun to see what it goes for though.

 I hope it brings that much, makes mine worth more.  Ha!  I see carbs, rims, dual brakes, steering damper, fenders, No logo on the seat, Headlight maybe. Recessed key? All things a guy would have done back in the day when they weren't any more valuable than another 750.
  By comparison, mine has a chrome valve cover and 9 hole clutch cover and new rear spokes. My Honda sidecovers and Yamiya airbox are repainted and suffer the same paint mismatch. I'm working on the fade and the original airbox though. It's got a ding and brake fluid drip here and there but I won't restore it. I think the rest of it is right.  Still under 10,000 miles. I may fix that this summer.

 I can't tell the head without seeing the front center head bolt or lack of. They should post a pic of the engine number.

Sandcast is the name given to the first ~7,000 SOHC4 CB750's due to the method used to create the engine cases and the finish that they had.

They should really have included the serial number off the engine in the description and more copy around what isn't original. This is a bike that should be bid on in person only by someone who knows Sandcasts and can ask the proper questions ahead of time.

Really same crank cases to 2003?  I would say to 1978 max.

Maybe a car collector will trust the auction company and buy something he has no clue about.

"Swedish title"..... sounds like they got the title separate. I know one guy that has a sandcast title only he keep alive in the registry.

If it is from Sweden lower bars are EU spec and the extra switch is so you dont turn thr lights off when using the RH off/low/high switch and was required by law in somw European countries. Rest of the mods detract massivley from value in my opinion.
Q. Did All the sandcasts go first to US or did some get to other countries, i know UK  only saw the "press" bikes until  the die cadts came in.

Totally agree that many things are not correct based on what the guys have said here. With all that in mind, this is actually a really neat bike, and done in a way I have not seen any others done like. I really love the color match fenders, dual disc and lower bars. Its as if someone took an early bike and updated it with small touches to make it their own and I really dig that. That said, the price is hilarious.

I don't have any issue with the mods in the abstract and agree that it is a good looking bike. But in the context of sandcast bikes, pretty much every change reduces the value and one would think that an auction catalog, especially for this particular auction, would note some of the differences and include the important detail of the engine number.

As far as I remember the first to go to Europe were England France Germany, after around 5000 serial number, and there was compliant parts for several of those countries,  that may have not worked for the others.
That from the green partsbook.some but not all these...taillight, signals license holder, handlebars.. things like that.
 Not to say that no one brought one in earlier, but it would likely be US spec.

 That's the spirit with which my diecast began, A day two bike with the mods that a guy would have done in the day. Mostly because they were done when I got it. Hell, I didn't even know it was early when I bought it, I just wanted the wheels. Over the years as parts have crossed my path it's gone more and more back to original looking.
  Like Danny, I appreciate the bike for what it is and personally would be tickled for it to bring the big bucks, it reminds me of the guys on Ebay throwing the sandcast moniker at every part that will bolt on a sohc.

It's interesting that both those bikes have the engine number in the highlights but the Swedish bike doesn't.
