internal oil pump wall cracked
« on: January 16, 2019, 10:57:11 AM »
rebuilding a dirty old oil pump and found an internal wall cracked.

its entirely possible i did it, but i only disassembled, dropped in a sonic tank, ran a nylon scrub brush over it and
found this big ole crack.

what might cause such a thing?  it doesnt appear to be a recent crack judging by the discoloration of the crack exposed
surfaces.

its also not loose and seems like quit a bit of force would have been need to accomplish this.

strange.

A foreign object going through it would leave a mark, possibly ice?
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

ice is a distinct possibility, there was indeed plenty of water inside the pump, this might make the most sense that it was frozen over a winter, or multiple winters.
