HONDA CB 500 FOUR exhaust conversions
« on: January 21, 2019, 04:15:23 AM »
Hi guys, i'm new so I have no idea if this subject was ever debated here but I own a 1975 Honda CB 500 four k and i'm currently looking for an exhaust system. I love the original mufflers but I wanted to know if it is possible to do a 4 in 2 exhaust conversion so there I can have only one muffler per side.

 Thanks

In the US there were sveral firms who did "slip on" mufflers if you cut the original ones off and kept the headers. You can frequently find them on fleabay. All 500K and 550k (except K3) are the same
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

I had installed Jardine 4 into 2 and loved the look and sound.

Welcome Joao. I remember some Italian suppliers, but I don't know if they are still in business. Back then you had: Sito, Busso and Mecadapo. Maybe the latter was Spanish.
Sito seems to have 4-2. You can do a search yourself. The Italian word for silencer is: marmitta, plural: marmitte. Maybe the Marving H/2062/BC is still obtainable.
Another thing. You probably have the same model CB500 that I have (see pic) and so I'd like to ask if you still have the Owner's Manual? Online it is here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/libretti-uso-a-manutenzione Unfortunately the resolution is poor and in 'parte 3' the wiring diagram is unreadable when you zoom in. We, the French, the Italians and the Germans are still looking for the three wiring diagrams that applied to the CB500K2 (ED, F, G). In close cooperation with the Italian Honda4Fun site, we try to get as much information as possible available for the world. I hope you can help. If you need more info yourself, I have it all here. Feel free to ask.

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the replies! Deltarider Unfortunately i don't have the owner's manual , It was a salvaged imported bike. Can550 (love the color of the bike by the way) I like the system you have but I wanted something more like the "original" muffler! The exhausts that I have are to rusted to be used :( So my Honda before I started the restauration is the red one and the other bike has the example of the exhaust system that I wanted (4 into 2 and the "old" looking muffler). But i can't seem to find it anywhere on the Internet! I tried the brands you said but without luck..

Your bike (the red one) seems to have the German type taillight and your 'example' 500 seems to have a 550 engine. Sorry, can't help you with identifying those silencers as I have never seen them before.

Nice eye Deltarider, it was imported from Germany! :)  I Talked to the owner of the "example" bike and he doesn't know the brand of the mufflers, he just told me that it was a job done in Ireland in a Honda Garage. He had the option of putting some off brand exhausts or these "triumph style" exhausts from the USA. That's the only info I have so far about them.

Scunny do you have any link about bates silencers?
