Clutch life is s a lot like brake pad life: very dependent on how it is used.  If you do a lot of slippage for drag racing and such, it's not going to last very long; if you ride normally, life will be long.  Used conservatively I've heard of them lasting 100K miles.  I've seen guys burn through them in months due to hole shots (not all CB750).  My last CB750 had 75K miles on its original plates.  I bought a 919 off a guy who suffered a radial compound fracture of his left forearm that needed a new clutch at 4200 miles.

10W-30 oil in a CB750 is wrong oil. That kind of thin oil is for newer engine constructions with much tighter clearances.
Any motorcycle oil of correct viscosity will work much better. 10W-40 when ambient temperature is around 15C and lower, 20-50 when warmer. You'll feel how the gearbox work.

I'm sure you're right and will change to 10w-40, thanks.

Never use less than 10w40 oil in the SOHC4 CB750 engine: Honda recommended (and I have found this 100% valid) using 20w50 oil unless you ride in temps less than 30 degrees, then use 10w40 or 15w40.

It was a mis-translation of a Jinglish Owner's Manual in 1974 that started the whole 10w40 oil thing in these engines. When I go inside them, I can immediately tell if 10w40 oils were used: the crank bearings are worn more and the clutch plates show slick, burnt spots on their faces. Eventually this lets them slip.

While I changed the plates on my 750K2 at 55,000 miles (after I quit roadracing it, and got married), I merely measured them at the recent 138,000 mile teardown I did in 2013. I rebuilt the rest of the engine then, but put the clutch back in, as it had less than 5% thickness wear since 1980 when I did it the first time. I run ONLY 20w50 oils (with lots of zinc), and anyone who has ridden with me on dry roads can tell you I am not nice to my clutch!
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

The demons are repulsed when a man does good. Use that.
Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.

30 Fahrenheit?
I have filled my K2 with 10W/40 oil for first break-in. I'll change to 20W-50 after 50km which is the distance to a friend living outside town, perfect place to adjust ignition on a warm engine.
