Exhaust Question
« on: January 22, 2007, 06:37:51 AM »
Good Morning All!

I'm in the process of putting my order in for a new Kerker 4 into 1 for my 1970 cb750 K0.  My question is this: do I need the clamps that came off the stock exhaust (the star looking things), or do I need different clamps altogether?  Also, what about gaskets, do I need new ones? I'd like to get all the parts together so when I actually go to install it, I'd like to try and get it done in one day instead of realizing I needed something and then have to order it and then wait again.  Would anyone who's done this installation before be willing to share their 2 cents on any issues they had with installation, mounting brackets, tuning, etc.?

Thanks again!

Prost!

the 69-76 models all used the spigots with the star clamps.  I'm assuming the Kerker will be the same type of slip on.  If thats the case then you will use the star clamps.  The 77/78 pipes are when the started using the shims w/the pipe mating directly to the head.

Hey there bikebuff you will need to take the  stock spigots out  I  highly suggest get an inpact  driver the kerker will come with the 8 bolts that replace the  flat head screws that hold the spigots in and you will use the new bolts to  bolt the kerker straight up  the header will have flanges on them unlike the  Mac they use the stock sqeeze clamps  but no where near the pipe a kerker is  yup there a bit pricy but worth  it  now I run one sister runs one  younger brother  runs one and we all just use the  end cone piece no baffle and   all but me running stock jets  (Im running 836) well I am the big brother  lol  so I had to go up on the mains but yeah thats what ya gotta do good luck seven fifty four ever  Craig in Maine
seven fifty four ever its not the destination its the journey Ive been collecting these old dinasours for 33 years . they are quite an ICON

As for the gaskets, it's never a bad idea to replace them when you have the exhaust off. A local Technician once tols me that the standard Copper Crush gaskets are... "usually good for about 2 or three applications before the ned to be replaced. Pry them out and take a look. if they are completely squished, then throw them out and get new ones."

I'd say get new ones anyway since it's a new exhaust.

Cool!  I'll slide on down to Sportland 2 in Oak Creek; those guys are great to deal with.
