i tried to use a 75 500t tank on my 76 550f but there seemed to be a problem with the rubber mounts in the front sticking out too far for it to fit.  Also i noticed that the petcock was hitting my carb and holding the rear of the tank up a little high.

i tried to use a 75 500t tank on my 76 550f...

It was mentioned in another thread that the 550F and 550K tanks mounted differently...
...stock 1972 CB500 '500 Four' undergoing re-assembly...
...Stock 1972 CL450 'Scrambler' also being re-assembled...

chippy,   I'm not sure about the shape of the underside of the 500T tank. I don't have a 500T tank to check it on a 500 but, I do have a 450 tank and they should be the same underneath and only being different in the actual outward shape of the tank. If you want, I will check that when I get a chance.

I have a 500T tank and can give you any measurements you need. I would think that the most important would be the distance needed to clear the coils.

I believe ANY tank can fit on ANY bike , if the time and effort is spent.
Moving the front mounting rubbers is not a big task, alittle banging to make room for coils underneath, etc..

CHIPPY, Whats wrong with the tank you have ?

will the 500T tank strap right onto a 500/550/4?? ???

Let's see, "Will the 500T tank strap right onto a 500/550/4??  ???" I'm not sure BUT, I think chippy would like a different style of tank. And he might want one that wouldn't take much to install it. That seems to be the direction he's going and the 500T tank seems to be a popular item with some, and that's cool. 8)

I know anything can fit anything, as babyfood1217 has so poignantly illustrated(see pic).

I just like the 500T tank, AND i am unmotivated and don't want to "chop" or "modify" anything, just wondered if it would seat right up "clean swap" per se.
