triple tree cb650 chopper
« on: February 08, 2019, 07:08:44 PM »
Howdy, new to the site and looking for some help. Picked up a very rough hardtail chopper build .One top fork clamp is cracked on the upper tree. trying to find out if this is a 650 or 750 tree. fork tubes are 35mm. the stem length is 9 inch's. the bike is titled as a 76 cb550. The engine is a 650 dominator.  thinking this tree was used from a 550, I ordered one but the stem is an inch [8 ]. too short. It appears to have a pretty good angle or rake but def looks stock. it has like two large chrome rings that hold the tack and speedo that protrude  from the upper tree. don't need to have these. pull choke on left side, not really needed either. just need to know what model Honda , 650 ,750, what ever, I can look for that has the dimension I need. also has BB type bearings.. Hope someone can lead me to the year and cc I need to find the right tree.  Thanks,

Post some pics. But all calj said above very possible ita not a stock neck. I once had a KZ750B chopper titles as a mid 80s ZX600... I can tell you with certainty there was not a single Ninja part on it lol.
slow Progress 74 cb550.

Thanks. I'll post pic today. sounds like a 750 tree will work. 3/4 inch will work. Thanks so much for quick reply. would you happen to be able to advise on which 750 model/year might have the most rake/angle ? W

hey again. after some digging I discovered this tree is from a 69-70 cb750. Its quite pricey, so I'm wondering if a 79 cb750 might work instead. found one on eBay with tapered bearings. would the rake be about the same?

Rake does not change , offset might .
The 69 type top tree is used till 1972.. so it may not be 69.

oh,  OK.  so not really familiar with the different offsets,  would you have a suggestion on what year 650 or 750 tree I should look for that would have the offset I need to push the front wheel out a little further for a little longer stance with having to order a custom tree with more rake?

In 77 the 750 trees had less offset. Not sure but likely on Dohc as well.
So 73 to 76  750 would work well.
