Ignitor unit
« on: February 12, 2019, 05:03:47 pm »
Hi guys, I've heard there are people out there that can make setting changes/repairs to OEM ignition units.

Namely the Suzuki GSX1100 box I'm using on the race engine, and I'd like to change the rev limit cutout.

I searched around but wonder if anyone could make a recommendation.

I used Carmo Electronics USA to repair the unobtainable CDI box for my RG.  The price was reasonable and it has worked flawlessly for 3 seasons.  They also have a European location.  Checked and one of the services they offer is to shift or remove rev limiters.

hei brent, in case you wan to increase rpm limit, boxes off the 750-600 should allow higher revs. might be cheaper than modifying IMHO.

my quick search found this too

If you are looking for another 500 rpm’s the 89 to 92 or 93 to 98 GSXR 1100 appears to be limited to 11,500 rpm’s.

Thanks guys, this might be the easiest route. The GSX1100 box is supposed to cut out @11,200, but by the dyno it's actually only 10,800. Good for engine management, but for Mosport we have to bounce off the limiter for a long way at the top of the straight. An extra 5-600 rpm would help there. Gearing any taller would hurt it elsewhere.

88-91 gsxr 750 limit is 12,500, nice for those instances that you want to carry a gear a bit longer.....

We don't drop out of power at the current rev limit , so an extra 1K rpm makes sense. By 12500 it will be dropping off so I might rather save the wear & tear, although they certainly don't mind spinning up there. Good ign boxes are cheap, I'll try one to 11.5 first.  ;D

Thanks again.

The GSX1100 igniter unit I am using seems to limit revs to 10,700 or so also.
