I can't remember the last time I rode a bike
« on: February 12, 2019, 07:42:10 PM »
It was like October 2018 or something.

Its been a crazy (and typical) winter here in the suburbs of Milwaukee. I get itchy every year about this time. With about 10" of snow today and its still snowing, reading you guys post about tuning your bikes in the driveway in your shorts really pisses me off!!

Already had my visit to Florida and may be going back for bike week. That will help but unfortunately, my buddy there only has one bike. (I know, hard to believe) I've done rentals out of Orlando but during bike week, no chance. I found a guy that will pick you up from the airport and put you on one of his Triumph's. He's only got 4-5 bikes but the last carbureted Thruxton I rented was a blast.

My bikes in Wisconsin? I have three in the garage that I have been tinkering on over the winter, and the poor Kawasaki Concours in the shed. I found a really nice cb550 1978 rocker cover complete on eBay for my 1974 to eliminate the spinning rocker shaft issue. Mine had 20k on it and no signs of abnormal wear but changed it out anyway. I also refaced gauges on the newer 74 with a 78 motor. Did general maintenance on all bikes including adjusting valve lash on the 750f and polishing the aluminum tank & seat pan, yada yada...

The Ides of March are not far away! That is my target for the first spring ride. We'll see...

There, now I feel better. Thanks for listening.

I fully understand you! I cannot wait spring to arrive, too..
Meanwhile doing what I can. Each time I go to garage I need to start small heater with fan for some time and then even running it for hours I have no more than 9 degree Celsius inside, so warm clothes is must. But that's only way I can do something in garage during winter.

In the other hand side be happy that you in US have much, much more oppotunities to find nice bikes there to buy and plenty of spares, incl NOS. For me, it is very costly to import it here overseas, due to shipping cost, import duty and tax.

We have a motorcycle show here in Toronto this weekend with all the newest models.  It’s about the only therapy available this time of year.  Well that and reading my old motorcycle mechanics magazines.

We live in New Richmond WI just east of Minneapolis/St Paul and it is is suddenly a winter wonderland here, beautiful actually. Waiting patiently for spring and headed to the International Motorcycle Show in Chicago this weekend to help pass the time.

Seanbarny: You live in the Michigan snow belt! EVERY time I drive to my daughters house north of Detroit (St. Clair) we hit snow around Kalamazoo.

Erny: I heat my garage since I insulated & drywalled it about 8 years ago. I run a 1500 watt oil circulating heater and keep in the mid to upper 50º range. In the bitter cold we had a few weeks ago of -25º, it was 38-40º.

Early January when we had a 50 degree day I rode it over the garage space I had just rented to get it out of the weather for the rest of the Winter.

We had 10 inches yesterday in WI so it will be a bit before I can get out. I did get the Wing out on Christmas as the ice and snow were clear. The 750's won't hit the road until the salt is gone.

Yeah, my house looks similar.
Grandkids off of school yesterday liked the piles from the plow driver.

has it been cold over there ? down this end of the world we're getting a bit sick of 40C+ ( high end of 90'sF in non metric ) days,  though next week is looking like being around 30C or so, quite mild really, might even have to wear a jacket on the bike
i blame Terry

This is always fun! You can't stand the heat and I have suffered through a long cold winter. What is your average low temp in your "winter"?

it might get down into the low single figure C during the night but most days average 12 - 15 c in winter, damn chilly that is  ........ :)

unless you go north to queensland or the northern territory, they'd average mid 20s c for most of 'winter' or the dry season as they call it
