Wheels next. Rear hub is SL350 and front hub is CB350. Lightened the hubs through cheese grating and holes. Sent off for vapour blasting. Rims are borrani 18”. 1.85 front and 2.15 rear. New spokes from Buchanan’s and the fun of lacing.

Frame, fairing and tank back from paint. Guys did a nice job. Very happy with the finish. Push is on to finish the frame and then can start on the motor.

Forks are fitted with maxton internals. Left fork is compression and the right is rebound. I’ve not used maxton before so it will be interesting to see how they perform.

As part of the planning process I used excel to log all the parts being used for this build. I wanted a comprehensive list of every nut and bolt used along with supplier details. I might have got a bit carried away but I had a lot of time whilst waiting for all the bits to arrive. I pinched the CSMNL schematics which are brilliant for all the detail. A bit nerdish but a great resource in the future when I get even older and more forgetful where the bits go and where I got them from. Some days I wish I could defrag the brain as it’s fills up with so much crap from everyday life….

Wheels are trued and ready for tires. Used E2 bearings in the hubs which are low friction. I can spin the wheels, walk away and make a cuppa and by time I get back that are still going :-). I like that

Avon am22’s fitted along with ap racing brake caliper. Had to remove a couple of mm from the back of the caliper. Used a belt sander as it was just touching the spokes. Good clearance now.

Rotor is a Davies unit. Really well made. Like the rest of their gear. Works really nicely with the ap racing caliper. Really happy with the hubs. They came out nice.

Time for the engine. A few photos of all the bits prior to fitting. Im just waiting for a few bits to finish it off. First photo is the nova 6 speed gearbox. Those with an eagle eye may notice the shift drum end is incorrect. Was sent a 350 drum by mistake. Nova were great to deal with swapping for the correct unit instantly. Using the nova gearbox requires a bit of modification to the shift forks. I found a company in Italy who manufacture new forks as NOS is difficult to find. GBmotosports. A quick shave on the lathe and the forks work beautifully.

Crank was sent off for balancing and we removed 1kg while we were at it. Was then sent off for Superfinishing and ready to go.

Conrods and pistons are Davies. Pistons are 2 ring slipper. Rods are 2mm longer than standard. They use this combination in their “short stroke” configuration.

So everything bolted up nicely with new bearings throughout. I got all excited when I put the gearbox in that I forgot to take any photos before sealing it up. Gears change as they should and the crank spins nicely.

I’ve just dropped the cylinders off at the machine shop to have new liners fitted along with nikasil coating and have them oringed for use with copper gasket. Next I need to sort out the head.

I’m aiming for 60 hp with a total dry weight of 135kg. I’m on target for the weight so it will be interesting to see how we go with the motor.

No modifications for the chambers needed. Don is spot on. Pin is higher to allow slipper piston design. I will take a side on photo once they return from machine shop.

Mike R at JMR has helped Brent Waller build a CB550 with 76 hp at the rear wheel. Magician with head work when you are ready for more hp.
