Digital speedo and tach
« on: January 22, 2007, 10:10:52 PM »
I just ordered a trail tech VAPOR digital speedometer and tachometer, I'll get it on wednesday and
post some pictures of it installed sometime this weekend.
Check 'em out at www.trailtech.net.  If you google it there is a link for the UK guys.
It seems to be a good alternative to the old clocks, I have burned up two speedometers in a year, at this rate i'll have spent more on speedos than I paid for the bike.
Here is a pic of the unit.
I farted and made my son cry.

let us know how it goes.  both speedo and tach gauges on my bike are busted.  maybe this wouldn't look the best, but functionality is awesome.

Hi all,

MrBlasty, which model did you order from Trailtech?  I saw a generic one for inverted forks; is that the one you ordered?  I really like the layout and am considering getting one since my speedo was crushed (long story, happened to the PO).  Please do include details and pitfalls when you get it and install it.

Prost!

Heffay, I paid $123.00 shipped for the vapor model.  I think they are sending me the wirink kit for one of the yamaha atvs, supposedly it was the most universal application.  I will post an update later in the week.

Damn those are pricey good looking but ....
Check the trailtech website, they offer a few different models, and they can be set for MPH or KMPH like a bicycle computer.

Yes it does, to get full functionality the unit needs to be attached to the battery, I down loaded the instruction manual and it seems like an easy install.  Now I've jinxed it.

Just remember that you already have a battery lead up front on the ignition switch... It is even fused for protection.

I mounted one on my GS500.  Works pretty good and looks cool on a streetfighter type bike.  The only real downside is the trip mileage is a pain to reset.  Also, you're going to need spiral plug wires.  RF really screws with these, especially the tach.  I bought the universal type for my bike, but I already had a magnet on my brakes (they're GSXR 750 forks).  No problems seeing anything during the day or night.  The backlight is very bright.  For the price, I think it's a nice little system.

Funny you should ask...

Here's another site that I've had my eyes on for awhile, prices seem on par with Trailtech.  I can't vouche for the quality as I've got other parts to get first.  Down the road, I'd like to get a new modern digital speedo, as mine is damaged by the PO.  Here's the link:

Thanks for that. I guess the only limiting factor is the depth of ones wallet...or the credit limit on the old credit card.

The mini moto would be cool on a really stripped down bike.  They were all way too expensive.  There's another company out there that makes the 'Veypor', not to be confused with the 'Vapor'.  They're suing incidentally.  Anyway, you can get heads up displays for your helmet and all sorts of cool attachments on the Veypor but you need a fat wallet to play.

You will be in the 115 to 120 mph range for as long as the motor lasts.

Now Bobby, we're talking about a Honda, it should last quite a while eh?
The 71 I started out with regularly went there and had 41,000miles on it when
I sold it (I was an idiot to sell it) :)
Thanks for the info on the Speed, it was still pulling at 8k but I ran out of straight
road.

Well that is true. I guess they would last a bit longer than most at athat RPM. Rememeber the old saying "they always run best before they blow up.
