'74 CB750K - Question About LED License Plate Bolt Install
« on: February 23, 2019, 07:19:23 PM »
Hello all,

In the process of converting all of the lighting on my bike to LED, I found that I would need to install a license plate light as my current taillight does not have one built in. I bought LED license plate bolt lights off of Amazon and am a bit confused with how to install them. I tested both lights with the battery and determined that the red wire of each light is the positive while the black is the negative. I also tested both lights and they both work.

I figured that I could just incorporate the wires for those indicators into the wiring of the taillight but I just cannot get the lights to illuminate. The taillight is an aftermarket piece so its wiring colors do not match my bike but I believe I have had it wired correctly which is why it is so confusing that these new lights won't turn on. I assume the red wire (which is positive) attaches to the bikes black wire (which is constant 12v) and the black wire (which is negative) attaches to the bikes green wire (which is ground). Am I wiring these lights to the wrong part of the bike? Where should I wire them if what I am currently doing is wrong? Thanks in advanced for your help!

Try LED light wires directly with battery and take note of polarity before connecting them permanently. I recall Brown being + and green or anywhere on frame is -
