Love that fire burn out!
So that one became the basis for a really great (stupid) fire burnout story. Of course alcohol was involved. DUH.
Mid 90's Sunday night, NHRA Gatornationals. A well-known crew chief is goofing around on a pit scooter, gonna do some burn outs. Wimpy suckola. So I tell the boys about the infamous RC Assassin fire burnout poster, they're like WOW a bike doing THAT, holy crap what a great idea, now it's ON. Gotta compensate for the lack of scooter horsepower, so we start with a patch of Torco 70wt and a dash of lit gas to get the tire spinning, but sadly it keeps going out with only a small fire. Oh no, this just won't suffice at the end of a race weekend.
So the fire gets the attention of a rowdy crowd of crew guys and brother, it's time to make the night come alive. This time with a MUCH larger 70wt, nitro, and gas puddle, this time once lit followed by squirting it with the gas bottle - just like starting the engine, once it's lit you just ease off steady... combined with a liberal dose of brake clean directed at the tire.
Hold my beer. Rev up the scooter. What could possibly go wrong?
'Spectacular' just dosen't do it credit. OMG flaming sh*t was going everywhere, the boys start whooping it up, the tire had become a spinning disc of flaming rubber, and once the oil under the fender caught fire it wouldn't go out. And in true old school fire burnout fashion, the rider kept it nailed, oblivious to that poor scooters predicament. Then he rode through the pits on fire. B*tch*n.
We finally knocked him down and dowsed out the fire with 12 oz liquid beverages. Someone had a camera and captured a photo, I almost got fired as it was my car owners scooter - but I didn't. Damn I wish I had that pic today.  8) 8) 8)
