8 minutes is the max cycle on the small HF unit I have. I sometimes run it twice and I don't know about the temp affecting it. I know mine is just hot enough that you don't want to put your hand in to pick up something! You have a lot of discoloration on those carbs that will probably not come out with Sonic. I would try a strong mixture but you may need to blast them. I have a HF soda blaster that cleans these up pretty well but the ultimate would be Vapor.

Is there any harm in putting them in longer? I have already had them in for a total of about 30 minutes. And when you say discoloration are you referring to the first pic? I was told that the rainbow color seen in the second pic is normal, desired

Another question would be, if there is no "grime," do I even need a degreaser in the solution at this point? Sorry to ask so many questions i am just worried about hurting my carbs with simple green again.

So very early on in this thread I thought it was established that soaking the carbs for 4 days in regular "green" Simple Green had discolored and darkened the metal. There is no amount of Sonic cleaning that will make that go away. The HD Pro version of Simple Green is safe for Aluminum but the damage is done.

What happened was I made the mistake with the simple green. What it did was leave a bunch of white deposits which Nils (vapor blasting guy) told me was the result of a chemical reastion with the simple green. Those carbs had bad float posts as well. I contacted a microwelding guy who was suggested to me by Nils, and that guy said the carbs were toast anyways. So I scrapped them. What I have now is a totally different set of carbs that I bought off of craigslist. That's why I'm trying to be careful.

Ah, OK...
Hard to keep the details straight. Your new carbs look darkened & discolored to me. That is not from the HD Pro so could be they were previously cleaned in something else? Going to 1 part HD Pro to 2 parts water will not harm the carbs and is what I would do to see if they clean up. Then off to vapor blasting if the results are not what you want.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I have two photos that show the "after." Still haven't put the carbs back in.

responding to the Responding to the point you made in the PM you sent, I agree in the "before" photo the rack shows that the carbs are all dulled and one is a little darker than the others. You can see in these after photos though that they're mostly gone back to a hazy blue color. The darker one is still a bit darker. I think what was scaring me from putting them in any longer is I don't know if I'm distinguishing good haze from bad haze. I'm not too worried if they don't come out good as new.. I just don't want to ruin them.

That is about what to expect with the sonic cleaner. I use just enough sg to turn the water green , 45 - 50c on temp and 1 hour clean time checking every 15 minutes. I just finished up 3 sets of really nasty 750 carbs that every thing was stuck. Overnight chem dip , sonic clean , soda blast and final 30 minute sonic with straight hot water. Of course they were completely apart. Soda blast was the ticket to really get them looking good. If you just use the sonic cleaner a light spray of wd40 after will keep any of the white crap from forming
