'77 CB750k clutch stuck?
« on: January 21, 2007, 06:04:00 PM »
hey guys, just picked this bike up from a kid who had laid it down.
he took the stator cover off and then left it for about 10 months
anyway, i put another stator cover on - and started her up (a bit rough at first, but after a few minutes it seems to have leveled out)

now my problem is the clutch...
i can't pull the lever in - it feels like it's frozen
any clues?

Is the cable frozen? Can you move the lever on the side of the clutch cover?

to tell you the truth, i didn't try that
i had limited time but i couldn't imagine a cable being stuck that bad - i felt like i was about the break the lever

either way - i'll try it when i get home
thanks!

It's an extreme case, but it is possible. It's the easiest thing to check/replace.

Disconnect the cable from the clutch. Does it move? If not, you could try to oil it but probqably just best to spend 12 bucks and get a new one. if it DOES move, then try to shift the bike into a high gear and move it and that might loosen the chutch up enough to move it, course something could have gotten bent but try those 2 things first!

thanks for the help
i'm starting to think that i have one of those 'crossover year' bikes
the clutch cable goes into the case, and i don't have a lever to maually move the clutch (like most older bikes i've seen)

just tried doing the high-gear rolling trick
no go

Ya have to pull the cover off.

Its the one with three screws.

Don't worry its just a trim cover. Oil will not gush and theres nothing under it except the arm that the cable attatches to.

If that arm is free and the cable doesn't move...you need a new cable.

if that arm doesn't move...ya need a shop manual.  :D

Seriously if it doesn't move its not that hard to get it apart and fixed. Come on back and someone will tell you how. (but a shop manual is still a good idea)

like the guys said, not a hard fix if its just stuck........try the cable first - disconnect it entirely and try and move it back and forward - if its hard to move - oil it up it may be ok...if it moves easily then your problem lays elsewhere...

when you get the clutch moving - start the bike and pull and hold the clutch IN - it will get some oil round those plates and help things a bit more...

That's good news!  While you're in the process of bringing the bike back to life, you might want to go ahead and replace the throttle cables too -- sounds like you might have some pretty old control cables on this bike.

Motion Pro has your cables.  Not very expensive.  Fast service.  They're on the 'net.

While your are there, have them throw some tappet feller guages into the box too.  Check your shop manual for the sizes you need.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

crc in the faq has been good to me for cables and such, but check your honda dealer if you ahve one, you never know, it may not be that expensive once you factor in shipping costs.
