eBay 836 kit in K7 - Cam Options
« on: February 26, 2019, 06:12:49 AM »
After digging through numerous threads on the subject, I couldn't find much info specific to the K7/K8 bikes

I've got the stock engine from my K7 on the work bench right now, and have one of the Ebay Cruzein_Image 836 kits on the shelf. My initial plan was to install the kit, replace the cam chain and tensioner, lap the valves, and call it a day. But while I'm that far into it, would an aftermarket cam be a better idea than the original K7 cam with the 836 kit?

This would be a daily rider/semi touring machine when finished. I'm not looking to do any major machining to install a cam, bolt-on/light work only here.

For what it's worth, a local shop owner agreed to tune the bike on his dyno when my build is wrapped up. I'd be happy to post pre/post tuning numbers when that day arrives.

The extra bump in displacement might be all you need for a tourer/cruiser.

if stock cam is in bad shape, Web cam 41 will work with stock springs and those pistons.

Hotter cams need racing springs allowing higher lift and pistons with deeper pockets as well and the bike owner. Porting the head is close too.

The stock cam appears to be in good shape, but I haven't measured anything on it. Engine has about 26,000 miles on it.

Judging by your post, I'm guessing the Webcam 41 isnt much of an improvement over the K7 cam? I'm not opposed to new springs if theres a suitable cam that would require them.

While on the subject, would my money be better spent on some headwork versus a new cam?

That combo 836 + webcam41 (CX-1) has been discussed before in a thread.
When new pistons will be added, why not a head refurbish with cut seats and maybe small port job as Hondaman explain in his book... 41a cam whith new springs and port job done.

Be nice if you had higher compression Wiseco or such pistons in it if you were putting that kind of extra money into the top end.
