Can we play "Name that Part" Brake Edition?
« on: March 05, 2019, 10:02:56 AM »
I dug into the rear wheel - to inspect the brakes, bearings, etc. As expected, it was a mess - grease, dirt, brake dust, etc. So, I started carefully disassembling and cleaning the parts. Well, I thought I was being careful - but I missed these two. They were just laying there with the other pieces - and I didn't see where they fell from. And, I've gone through manuals/exploded views and parts lists (with pics) and can't find them.

Actually, I'm not even "them" is accurate - it could be an "it" that was torn in two. But, they are oddly similar to have ripped.

From the rear hub/brakes on a '73 CB500

Thanks!

Not looking familiar. I think there should just be the two shoes and the springs in there. Could be wrong, of course.

Looks maybe like the felt seal on outside of brake shaft.. where it meet the arm.
There is a recess in the backing plate, that it sits in.

Well, I guess I should've added that it's rubber. Were rubber versions of those felt seals available in the aftermarket maybe?

Looks like two separate pieces and not two halves of the same item. If you imagine the two pieces joined together, they don't form a circle.
Maybe the PO installed them for some reason ?
Are you sure it's a CB500 rear wheel ?

We'll if you can't find felt, you use what you can .. see if it fits in there.
