16" on the front of my 550?
« on: March 02, 2019, 03:20:50 PM »
gsxr swap up front on my 550 and already running a 16" hog wheel in the rear. Any reasons why I shouldn't run 16 front and back?
Using Dyna hub between the forks and found a set of 16" harley wheels for 100 bucks.
thanks.

I suppose it depends on what tire you run. Dropping 3" in diameter is a lot and will change up the steering geometry. Give it a shot if you want, but ride carefully until you understand how your bike reacts to the change.

I thought one complaint against 16" fronts when they hit the scene back in the day for a little while was a lack of choices of rubber.

We are putting a 16 front on a 78 750 K with GL forks.
Using a nighthawk rear wheel. , height us very close, different axle size.
Your Harley wheels wil, likely be 3/4 inch bearings or 1 inch Maybe 25mm .

What size are your fork ends ?

Just go with the gsxr stock size.  Lots of great front tires available for that rim.

If you go to 16 front, you'll be severely limited in choices and design quality.

Im not sure what you mean by fork ends, I installed 25mm bearings in the hub already and it fits the stock GSXR axle.

Yeah I think I'll just try it out and see how it feels, the most overwhelming negative is lack of tire choice.

What size are the fork ends where the axle is clamped ?
Sounds like one  might  be threaded .

If your bearings in wheel fit the axle you are fine, just need a spacer on each side..

I'm recalling the few times i rode a buell blast and the somewhat odd but not unstable handling of that 16" front
