You didn't want to spend $60 or $70 for the proper air box boots, or $40 for a valve spring compressor because you had "too much stuff", but you want to drop nearly a grand on (low end) air compressor, media blasting box, media, hoses, fittings, etc.?
 Explain that logic to me?

I don't think I do. That's why I was trying to figure out cost/size to equip. I mean, I do too. I'm torn between my inner minimalist off grid boondocking nomad and inspector gadget /batman /jack of all trades inventor.

Can't anyone relate? Or are most of us one or the other? I'm really heading towards off grid so I SHOULD just cut down on my garage tools and part out my project 92 Mitsubishi eclipse collecting dust and start learning to build solar panel systems and just keep my garage tools to a motorcycle work minimum. So yeah...

And just wondering... cuz I suspect there'll be varying answers to this, how many uses max would you reuse the head gasket(already reused mine once with a slightest smear of gasket maker) and the copper header gaskets(reused twice so far)? I'm wondering if so long as you don't lose material on the copper gaskets, if you can just (aneal?) them and reform to reuse.

For the copper exhaust gaskets I toss them if they look overly crushed but I avoid using them more than once. You can soften them but you can’t unsquish them. If you hear ticking or see exhaust leaks then you know you should have replaced them. They’re cheap enough, I keep a small drawer full of them. Not the copper ones, but the shiny ones with the green asbestos-looking sealing material.

As for head gaskets, if it’s been torqued fully and heat cycled I’d replace it as a general rule. Maybe it would be ok if it has minimal miles on it. I’m sure there’s the odd person who reuses the same head gasket over and over. But maybe I’d ask why they need to have the head off so many times...

Almost there lol.  Been busy with life. Check out the clean finish. Realized after a bit if you really want it clean you pay someone $80 to blast it.  I think they put a rust proof layer of something, whatever that silver finish is. Any tips on painting to avoid globs forming? In my limited painting experience I've tended to end up with globs. I should end up with a pretty decent job. Can't wait to get my baby back up and running. Riding a four wheeled vessel is getting boring.

Several light coats to start, wait 15-30 minutes between coats and don't hold the can too close to the head. Use VHT or Dupli-Color engine paint.

You get globs for  not cleaning the tip. Are you releasing pressure at ends of stroke ?

Thanks for the tips. Going at it now. 754 I meant globs on the thing I'm painting. I'll do light coats from a distance. Take my time. Probably the best tip for all work.

That silver finish is fresh aluminum unless you told them to coat it

Ah. I wondered cuz the seats where the cam sits are shiny. Maybe they're part of a separate piece? I didn't ask for any extra coatings but he said a couple things I didn't quite catch. But if that's what bare aluminum (alloy?) looks like...

Hmm...  Somehow I figured it would be more reflective. I think I thought head color was flatter than the rest for some reason. That was impression when I first checked. Anyway it looks nice for what it is but too flat to match. Would it be overkill to throw the glossier one over top? A 2nd layer? I'm thinking in terms of hampering the cooling ability of the metal. Prolly not no? 1st layer would be "2000 f" while second would be "500f". Whatever difference that makes. I'm guessing 500f is sufficient? How hot do our engines get btw? You guys happen to know?

Scott you keep mentioning that other brand. I've always used this brand. Is yours a better quality or something? Is rust oleum cheap? I'm sure I shopped based on price as that's automatic for me.

I used an on-off method, kinda like how I use my weed whacker lol while they say hold throttle steady and hard. Idk, just my habit, works for grass along the fence. Should I spray paint smoother? No globs. Came out nice I reckon. Hit it at various angles. Unless anyone objects I'll proceed with a final layer with the glossier black here. Thanks!

I believe the VHT is a near match for the Honda silver.
I'd go with gloss or semi gloss on a black 650 engine.  It will change slightly when heat cured.

Hold the can a set distance away from the part you're painting.  Six to ten inches. Don't go in and out. Think robot that keeps the same distance.  Hold the button past the end of the part.
