Just tried to buy a part on eBay, went to pay and PayPal was not an option with the seller.

After a little research, found out that eBay is apparently dumping PayPal, a company that they bought several years ago.

WTF? Have you heard??

That story was over a year old but says they want to transition to something. Have not bought much on there lately but be interesting to see if other people are noticing this. What form of payment did you have to use Steve ? Any idea as to the new format for payment ?
I remember selling antiques on E-bay during its early years and it was always fun going to the mailbox and collecting envelopes with checks and money orders before Paypal was forced in. Almost like Christmas everyday

I used the "new eBay managed payments experience", which is basically entering your credit card info to eBay.

Not sure but maybe all sellers have not switched yet?

As of now, as a seller, you can use PayPal, or a couple other approved merchant accounts. I don't think they're ditching it altogether, just opening it up to other merchant account providers. I still use PayPal. Quick, easy, and I never have to see any card info. I'll let the multi-billion dollar company handle the payment encryption, and the costs associated with it.

I bought a couple items there recently, I connected my paypal and checking so I can get paid when selling so it comes out of there now.

I was part of the first group of vendors to sign up for the managed payment method. What they didn't tell us was that Paypal was not part of the payment options and that we could not go back to the old system. I've lost several sales because of it and the buyers think it was a vendor decision to not accept Paypal anymore. Eventually all vendors will be transitioned into it. Ron

I prefer PayPal, and use it a lot, on eBay, and other online stores.
I buy things weekly on ebay.

They've told us they may have them on line again later this summer. Do not know if you will be able to pay with your Paypal balance or use a Paypal cc. Ron

I think the bottom line it comes down to greed - eBay want to make more money.

I heard Ebay was struggling and wanted to set PayPal free to grow on its own. If that is true it will end up hurting Ebay as people aren’t able to use their PayPal balance to shop on Ebay. From my own shopping experience having that PayPal balance make me much more likely to buy the part on EBay.

Making the buying experience harder will just hurt Ebay.

I don’t see how Ebay can reinvent itself anyway.

ebay is trying hard to squeeze the last possible dime out of the transactions. I agree totally with dropping Paypal will hurt them, at least in the short run.
They just recently changed the "Fixed Price" offerings to "Good 'til Cancelled" and automatic relist after 30 days from a set period of time for the end. This means that your item will be relisted after 30 days automatically and they will charge you listing fees unless you catch it before and end the item.
I have not listed any items at a "Fixed Price" as a result. Others probably haven't either.

Locally here in flyover mid states my debit card insurer won't allow debit card payments to eBay (PayPal)..
For years I had it linked to eBay's' pay now PayPal button. When I called my bank, they offered no explanation but they indicated it was anywhere in California, not just eBay. I don't know if Don R has experienced this, he's quite a bit north.
