Leather Jackets - how cool is yours?
« on: January 24, 2007, 02:30:44 PM »
Ok so Im looking for a really good leather jacket (not perforated) - has to have armour on shoulders, elbows and back....easy enough so far but looking for a cool "cafe" jacket - i.e. round neck with zip on side type of thing. Cant seem to find any among the cruiser-style jackets and the fancy all-colour sports leather jackets and dont really want to be a walking advertisement for Joe Rocket or whatever.

So this thread is a chance to post pics of your favourite jacket (you may have it already) or it could be one you have seen but dont have the $$s yet -and if you know of anywhere I can find my cool cafe jacket please let me know! My current leather jacket (see pic) is 17 years old, looks great but isnt so warm anymore and doesnt like the wet so much. Need a replacement!

cheers
Andy

Andy...Mine's pretty cool because it's perforated. When I was looking for it, like you I wasn't looking to be a billboard for the manufacturer. It was hard to find one and the one I bought does have a patch which will eventually come off and an embossed area on each sleeve which I've covered. There is a non-perforated version of the jacket...the Tour Master Coaster II. It however has an embossed area on the back at the bottom. Here it is... http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/product.php?productid=62&cat=5 ...I bought my jacket from newenough.com They usually have decent prices and are worth checking out for deals. I'm real happy with the jacket.

Happy shopping, Mike

Well, i went with the new modern sport Jacket, though I wish I had searched longer and found an all black one.
Mine is the Alpinestar Red/Black/white with armor. I still have my jacket from the 70's which makes it about
32 years old at least. No armor in it and the zippers need replacing in the sleeves. As soon as I find a good
source for the zipper replacement it will see use again. It's the classic style.

I like my First Gear.  It weighs a ton, but it really feels good when it's on.  The venting zippers work well and it's good up to about 80 degrees or down to about 40, except my hands get too cold.

I'm posting a picture reluctantly to keep in the spirit of the post....
no- that is not my house.

Classic Leather from The Oregon Leather Company for me, really heavy hide leather.  Hope to take it with me when I croak from old age.

Everything else is Tourmaster, love that stuff.

Not really "classic," but it works great. Removable quilted liner, no collar, CE armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back. It's REALLY heavy. Like 10 pounds heavy!!

...gotta be classic black leather.  This jacket was a hand-me-down.  I've had it for about 15 years and have worn it on all my bikes.  POW/MIA & Ariborne on the left shoulder, and SOHC 750 patch on the right...

That's the jacket I got.  EXTREMELY comfortable (even though it weighs close to 25 lbs), good cooling in the summer and good heat in the winter (I can wear a shortsleeve shirt and a thin fleece jacket under it and I'm toasty warm even down to 20 degrees), with some of the thickest natural cowhide you can find on the market.

It's pricey, but I haven't had a stitch come out on it yet...  and if I did have a stitch come out, I could just call up their customer service and they could fix it for me.  Hand made in the good ole' USA  ;D

Carhart's jackets last me about 2 years.
I am a Carhart fan, believe me.
I have had the same black carhart jacket for 8 years now and it is still rockin.
I just find it too big/bulky to ride with, thus the smaller dickies coat I usually wear..

I have a custom leather jacket that was made at a famous leather house in San Francisco. Punk styling with side laces. Still have some of my punk pins on it including a old British Police badge with an Egyptian design. Will look at the label to make sure I have the name right. It was a birthday gift from a girlfriend long ago... I will provide the manufactures name and a picture later.

I hear ya Duster, jackets are hard to replace :)
The wife gave me the first one when we were dating,
and I still have the wife and the jacket, truly unusual this day and age :)

Hey anyone know where I can send my old jacket to get the zippers replaced?

Not a very cool jacket but at least its well used.
It has survived 12 years and two crashes (scrathed leather just gives it character, right...)

Cheers
