Real Honda guys hate 750's
« on: March 20, 2019, 12:34:12 PM »
I was talking to a local guy that has a nice cb500T and some other small older cb something. He told me he was in the vjmc in Illinois and when he lived in Indiana the one there, and all of the real Honda guys that have other Hondas hate the 750's just because that's all everybody talks about everywhere they go. They go to a show and someone always says, My brother had one but it was a 750! Boy that was a great bike!
I personally thought that was hilarious. That said, I love all of the Hondas. And most other bikes too.  Heck, I can't think of one I don't like. Well, Yamaha triples, I like to look at them I just don't want to own another one.

Haha.
I like most all the Honda's myself, along with a few other makes.
I have mostly 750's but my father inlaw is always like, " I really like the CB550, we had one back when I was such n such and it was a sweet bike."

I like all Hondas but the one I have no affection for is the CB360. A friend of mine bought one new in 1975 and we often swapped bikes (I had a Suzuki GT380 at the time).
The CB360 was gutless, vibrated  badly and had pogo sticks for rear suspension. He traded it on CB500 shortly after.

So what this guy is saying, when you see his bike and YOU don't own one like it, start talking about Vespa's.

pretty sure any Honda lover who hates cb750's has never ridden one.  A lot of these VJMC guys go crazy over absurdly rare and small bikes that have little practical use for a full sized adult in modern traffic.

I really liked my little 360. It was a zippy, fun little bike. That said I do like the 750 better overall. But hell, I even like the trail 70's.

I bought the first CB360 my local Honda dealer got in 1974. I think it had a 6 speed trans. I really had no complaints with it other than a friend of mine had a Kawasaki 400 triple and no matter what I did I couldn't keep up with him ;D

I think he has cylinder envy. HA! His cb500T is really nice, it has the brown seat which I didn't think I like but it looks good on that bike.

No, you just think you like the brown because the rest of the bike is so damn ugly. ;D

the trail 70s were cool and indestructible!they introduced a lotta people to motorcycling that wouldn't have been otherwise, honda has made something for everyone right from the get go,other brands caught up later with this sales marketing, they never made the wide variety of bikes Honda did back then.from a trail 70 your sister could have fun on to the 750 four take on all comers and still have fun, right till this day!

I knew someone with a SL100 back in the 70s.  It was a blast up in the hill country.  I'd never buy one, but it was fun.  At the time, I had a Zundapp 250 motocross.  Then I got a Triumph Bonneville.  I liked that a lot better.

I Had one too, and it was a turd.  Couldn't figure out why it would barely go over 60.  Two-up and the suspension would constantly bottom out, and that was with two skinny teenagers.  I still had fun on it, it was my first bike.

My cb360 was excellent.  Had it to low 90 mph's on command.  Got right up there without fuss.  First bike I rode 2 up and thought "well, that went ok"  It was always super dependable and fun.

Yeah - mine had plenty of zip and my wife and I - NOT skinny teenagers - never had a prob 2 up. Maybe I just got lucky.

Yeah, maybe my friends was a Monday morning assembly line job in terms of the engine, but I still vividly recall trying to go around corners without the rear end constantly trying to throw me out of the seat though. I liked his CB500 a lot more !

I had a near new k2 cb500f and my wife wanted a bike so I went to the Honda shop to see about a trade in on two 360's. They would sell me one and trade even for the other. That made no sense so I gave her the 500 and bought a used K3 750 from a friend for me to ride.  A way better choice. She wasn't a great rider, never wrecked but scared me bad a couple times. I sold the 500 to my nephew. should have kept them both.
Edit, (meant kept the bikes, not nephew and wife)

and all of the real Honda guys that have other Hondas hate the 750's just because that's all everybody talks about everywhere they go.

Well, there is a reason for that. ;)

Edit, well I meant I kept the nephew and wife, but neither bike. Later I've made up for it by owning at least one of every 750 sohc four they made except 78K. They didn't all run though.
