What should I have for an exhaust on my 1972 CB500four? What would give the best performance?

I am currently using the MAC 4 into one, it gives good performance and I did
not have to re-jet. My carbs have the keyster rebuild kits which came with
#40 slow jets and #100 mains.
The exhaust seems very sturdy and was a good fit right out of the box.
Bikes parked out front mean good chicken-fried steak inside.

Depends on what you want.

I like the old 4-4 look and sound - you can't beat it.  But a NOS set will cost you £400 from David Silver Spares. Seeing as Mr Honda designed this bike with this system, I think that it's probably the best compromise.

If you like noise and a bit more performance (maybe) go for a 4-1. Any of the ones around at the moment seem fine. My avatar (left) shows my bike in 1976 with a Piper(UK) 4-1. It had screw in baffles (say no more). Cost maybe about half the set above.

You don't say what you have now?

Look in the FAQs or search on exhausts and you'll find loads of info here from people who have tried almost every combination possible!

I think that any quality exhaust these days is as good if not better than what was designed in 1972. Technology does improve.
What may have been good then may actually be only mediocre now.

I am not sure what make, but it is what I would call four into two,one rather small outlet on each side. I am wondering if it has to much restriction for the best performance. You can see it my picture
