Yoshimura Super Rods, first introduced in?
« on: April 03, 2019, 10:37:59 AM »
A bit of a history question.  I have two Yoshimura focused articles from January and March 1973 that mention the forged aluminum super rods.  So they must have been around and available by late 1972 at the latest.  Does anyone know when they were introduced?

Also Carrillo rods were available pretty early on.  I’ve heard down to perhaps 1971/72.  Anyone know?

Not sure George, but I held a set in 74 (Yosh that is) and thought they were cool. The parting line just disappeared.

Brent,

They are nice... I’m looking into what the options were for wise in the first 2-3 years.

It seems everyone used the K0/K1 factory rods as there were no other options.  Smoothing the parting lines on the beams, shot peened, and polished.  Upgraded rod bolts and bronze bushed pin ends.

That’s what Action Fours did early on.  It seems Honda Factory, Yoshimura, etc in 69-71 too.  RSC rods hadn’t come out yet, Carrillo rods either, Yoshi super rods too.(as far as I know anyway)

The big problem with the stock rods early on were people were hanging pistons on them that weighed way more than stock. I am sure people over-revved the engines too. No power after 9,00 - 9,500....a million dyno charts prove that.

I am thinking Carillo often made rods  for whoever ordered them, so there may have been a few sets around before anyone offered them up retail.
