Seen this on another forum ( Garage Journal )
And was wondering tonthe SOHC4 community what is your must have for home bike shop.
Mine are
Motorcycle jack/lift table
Multimeter
Ratchet straps
Tire spoons
QD cleaner
JIS Screwdrivers (just recently learned how great these are)
Metric allen sockets
1/4 and 3/8 swivels
1/4 torque wrench
Paint markers
Points file

What do you guys consider must have?

Get some Vessel Impacta drivers.
Also in the past when a impact driver wouldnt save me i have cut a notch with a dremel and beat it to turn with a flat screwdriver and a hammer. Only in extreme cases has that happened.

For SOHC's, proper valve lash feeler gauges are a must have. I have used regular feelers from Autozone, but the small, tapered tip, one tool for both intake and exhaust makes the job SO much easier. https://www.ebay.com/itm/202535995281

I love my heat gun ! Another tool I use all the time is a soft wire wheel and a cloth buffing wheel mounted on a stand.Great for cleaning bolt heads and threads and other goodies.A good vice is handy also. Chain breaker if you buy a lot of bikes to restore along with good tire spoons/levers. Assorted hammers of different sizes and materials.Brass drifts and other punches,picks and chisels are good yard sale buys. Tap and die sets are very handy to have around fixing threads. Oh the list could go on and on and on.

Well, a good socket set and screwdriver set (still need JIS.... I know) are mandatory. But these are the most used and most useful tools in my garage:

- tiny, thin, cheap 10mm wrench.
- scissor jack lift. Don't know how I lived without it. This and a center stand and you can completely remove the suspension on a bike
- ratcheting handle with twist grip that spins the socket
- ratcheting combination wrench set.

Magnet on an extendable / telescopic arm to pick up the nuts etc that you drop in to the cases (ask me how I know).

Spark plug wrench and 10" of rubber tubing for starting spark plugs.

Also depends how deep you get into the project; eventually you will need timing wheel, some play doh, machinist blue, lapping compound, buffer for polishing aluminum, welder, lathe.... sky is the limit

I just used my new set of master cylinder pliers for the first time today on a crusty old original master cylinder. It was so much easier to have the right tool for the job.

Eventually I broke one of the tips (abuse). Now I keep a spare pair on hand....... true “must have”.

Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) screwdrivers or driver tips. Their Phillips is different from ours.

Well fellows, took me almost 50 years, but I finally got a fab table
30 by 48, and I love the rounded corners,
This one won't bounce, guess how thick ?
It cleaned up nice but I need to fix the ends of the legs..

We had a round 2 Incher in the shop at one time, about - 3 ft across.

I just got one recently too. Mine is not as thick as yours at 1/2"x48"x60" but it has a really good frame under it. I love being able to leave the welder ground hooked to the table, it makes it so much easier to weld little stuff. My friend drug it out of one of the barns and hauled it here from South Dakota last fall. It used to have his uncles still welded to it.

Dave it is an inch.. so the top is about 400 lbs. Can definitely drill and tap into it..

A friend has a machine shop, he makes fab tables with the drilled holes to accept the clamps and fixtures you can buy, hot hands or something like that. I have a chassis table in mind that uses several of those at intervals that may be moved to build dragster chassis.
This guy made his own planishing hammer and English wheel from 1/2" plate about a 3 1/2' throat. Very talented, I'll admit to being slightly envious.

I always felt my Corded rigid 1/2 drive worked well. But this... This isnt asking it to come out. Its out or in half haha

I could have used one of those when I was younger but then I probably wouldn't have had a compressor to plug it into.

Not so much a tool, but a tip. When performing maintenance and repairs on your bike, use the tools you carry onboard whenever possible. That way, you can add a tool or three to your tool pouch if you find it’s really needed for roadside repairs.

I always try to do this. Going to order a set of Hozan "JIS" DIN drivers for the bike. Keep my vessels at home.
But usually I try to keep a 1/4 ratchet swivel extensions amd a 8 10 12mm socket and the corresponding wrenches.
Fuses spark plugs amd a section of fuel line in my riding backpack.
