Great book for advice on detailing motorcycles
« on: January 24, 2007, 09:16:40 PM »
I spotted this in a local used book store. I suppose it is still in publication. Great chapters on all facets of detailing motorcycles.

It goes beyond common sense stuff?  Doesn't seem to me like detailing is all that complicated...

Just takes time and elbow grease in my experience.

I bought it a while ago. Have some good tips but I can't use it further than that - the products mentioned in the book are not available in Spain...  ;D

i heard a 'motorcycle detailing secret' the other day:  rubbing aluminum foil on chrome will remove pitting.  havent tried it but thought about how steel wool will get into the pores of aluminum so its bad to use it on our cases, as the brittle bits of the steel will be absorbed into the aluminum, and this seems to be taking advantage of that principle by absorbing the brittle bits of the chromium steel (the rust) into the aluminum foil?

hey heres a better idea: turn this thread into a detailing secrets thread.   if things dont pick up, raul could start transcribing that book.  ;D

I think I saw the MythBusters do the Aluminum foil/Coca-Cola trick. It seemed to work pretty well.

You need to add salt to that to mix. It is actually a plating process. The silver oxide plates itself to the Aluminum. Works very well.

Steel wool will remove rust from chrome without scratching the chrome. Obviously, if the chrome has been pitted it would be to late, but for surface rust it's just a matter of seconds.

Check this mirror of my CB350. Sadly it was pitted and an replacement was the way to go...
