CB 750 kick start swap
« on: March 26, 2019, 02:50:51 PM »
Anyone know if another kick-start model is compatible with the CB750 SHOC? The kick-start is in conflict with my foot rest because this model is very wide at this base.

 Hi Mathieu,

I understand your concern about starting. The biggest difference between our bikes is some weight. Mine bumps easily, but there are times....

I think your lever is the best one, just do like Mirko and heat and bend to clear the peg. You might shorten the peg to help too.

Hello Brent and Frank.
As Brent said my bike is a 77 with kick model who has more clearance. These is not the arm of the kikc who is conflicting the junction between the base and the pivot point. This part is very wide and square.
It hits the end of the rear brake lever at the end of the trajectory of the arm. The foot rest raises for the passage of the arm.
That's why I'm looking for another model, with a smaller mechanism at the base.
Do you have an idea of the diameter of the shaft?

Mathieu, the spline on the shaft is common to many bikes. Is this a race bike with rearsets or other non-original parts? The early 750 kick starter has a narrower base than the K7; I will get a picture comparing them. It would help if you could attach pictures of your interference?

Hello Scottly.
Yes, there are Raask footrests for the race.
I don't have photo yet, my shop is 1 hour from where I live and I do not have time to go right now.
I will see with Brent and find a solution.
Thank you.

Here is my K1 kick starter as currently mounted. This contacted the rear of the brake pedal of the original John Tickle rear-sets. You may notice the marks on the kicker arm, and the bashed area of the pedal. My home-made brake pedal is mounted further in and further back, so now the kicker has clearance.

Here are pics of a 1982 XR500 kicker, which has the same spline, next to a K7. Also, the K7 is longer than a K1; about half the amount between the K7 and the XR.
