340mm shocks on cb350/400F
« on: March 21, 2019, 07:27:36 AM »
I know the topic of longer shocks has been covered generally, faster turning etc, just looking for specific experience with swapping shocks from larger to smaller CB models. Stock is around 320mm, so it adds about 3/4in.

I can't speak for the 350, but on the 400 it does impact on high speed stability a fair bit, makes it turn quicker of course, but also it makes chain adjustment difficult as the nature of the geometry means that correct adjustment at some points of suspension compression result in lots of slack at other points in the travel. Also, the stands are both too short for the bike's extra height.

tbh, I wouldn't bother, the only gain is better cornering turn in, I'd just stick a pair of AM26s on, that's plenty good enough cornering for me

Not sure on a 350 but on a 400 with stock muffler the axle adjuster would be into the muffler with the bike on the center stand.  Besides that, I don't know that I'd want any quicker steering on my 400, already a pretty quick turning bike.

Many more options at 340mm, I’ll keep hunting for 320mm.
