Hello
« on: April 09, 2019, 03:10:10 PM »
Hello from North Carolina. Last August I purchased a 1978 CB550K with 20,000 miles on it. Since it had a bit of an uncertain past/ missing a few parts I decided to do a complete disassembly. It has been a very slow process but iota's finally disassembled. I have had the valves lapped and side an overbore to 61mm to accept dynoman DP593 61s pistons. I'm hoping to restore it to working condition by this summer then start the process of modifying it to a brat build. This forum has been a huge help to get to where I am now with this bike.

Some of the current issues/ questions I'm facing now before moving forward are:

1) Does powder coating the jugs/ fins retain heat and lead to the engine over heating?
2) In order to powder coat the cylinder head, do you need to remove the valve guides since there is an o-ring on them or can it withstand the heat of the oven?
3) Is it better to use Genuine engine oil seals or OEM. I'm looking at either buying them individually on DSS or getting the package of them from common motor collective.
4) I need a new cam chain tensioner blade. Does anyone have recommendations/ experience using the DSS aftermarket version?

Thank you in advance for any and all advice!
